He loves it! Which is weird because he usually hates hats.

I've got the 50mm 1.8 that I use for outside pictures too, it's just too tight for indoor shots most of the time.

Well, I bought my 35mm from Adorama.com, but I bought the 50mm off craigslist.

I have a Nikon D3100.

I was looking on CL but I'm scared mainly because I'm not sure what to look for. Like how to tell if somethings wrong or not....

Lenses are hard to buy used. The only reason I got my 50 on craigslist is because the guy hadn't even opened the box  
The only real thing you could look for are dust or oil spots, scratches on the glass.

You're better off watching for a sale or buying a refurbished one really.
