Death Sentence : PRO vs AGAINST

Today in my history class we had a debate about death sentences. I would like to point out that it is highly illegal in my country and most of Europe, too. We talked about the U.S and if we agreed with death penalties or not.

What do you think? Yes? No? In which cases?

There were two different views today:

- It is correct to kill someone who has killed other people or committed horrible crimes because they're a thread to humanity and they don't deserve our respect or dignity.

- It is wrong to kill someone because we don't have the right to kill a human being - it's against human rights.

Which side do you stand on?

I'm against it because its costly.

I'm pro death penalty.

I'm against the death penalty. No real reason aside from the fact that I feel it's wrong.

I'm against it because I don't feel anyone has the right to take the life of another. Yet, I'm pro choice for abortions. I think that they should be forced to suffer.

Most of the time, I'm on the fence. However, when it comes to heinous crimes against children and the elderly, I'd rather hang and quarter them in front of the inmate population.

I am definitely PRO death penalty!

If you want to cross the line of murdering another human, in my opinion you are no longer privileged to your rights.

I live in Texas and we still have the death penalty. I firmly believe some people deserve death for their crimes. It takes a lot to convince a jury to give death though. So I don't think it's overused.

i think the murderer should sit in jail and rot till he dies... kill someone... lose your human rights.. they took someone elses away, why should they keep theirs?

I've heard this, too. But honestly, is it more costly than keeping a criminal in jail, giving them 3 hots, a cot and medical care until they die? I don't see how it's that costly.

I look at it as an easy way out, but some cases I want the murderer/criminal to die (IE. Casey Anthony).

Ever since I was nine years old and lost my uncle in a terrorist attack, I'm all for the death penalty. I would rather them bring back old sparkey enough, instead of lethal injection, which I believe is too humane for some people.

honestly i'm split. i personally have never been a victim of anything that would have resulted in such but i can kinda understand where a family would want that person dead for whatever they may have done..

BUT at the same time killing them would be putting them out of their misery where as giving them a life sentence would make them suffer and think about what they did for the rest of their life.

I'm an eye-for-an-eye type of gal. Kill someone, we kill you back.
