Porn conversation at husbands work

posted 4th Jan
My husband is in the military. He was working the other day and at work there was a guy who was asking for advice, his wife was mad at him because she found porn on his computer. He was asking other guys in the office for advice, all of them were saying, it doesn't matter porn is fine and normal, telling him she'll get over it, or that he should hide it from her. Well then they look at my husband and say "I bet you even watch porn right?" And my husband said no, and gave his reasoning why (no religious reasons were brought up) When he said "no" Their reactions were all "what?" Well then he began to explain why he didn't.. and they all I guess started talking over him to the other guy saying no porn is fine. blah blah blah. Almost all the guys gave this dude advice, but none wanted him to hear anything different then what they told him, so they spoke over my husband to him.. I found it pretty rude.

My question is, if someone came to you looking for advice and everyone was giving their viewpoint on the manner, would you talk over them if 1 persons viewpoint was different then yours?

If I was talking to two women about my son, and one of the women had a child and the other didnt....I would probably tune out the single women and listen to the mother when it comes to advice.

Im sure they seen it as what advice could your husband give about porn in a relationship if he doesnt have porn in his releationship

Well my husband did used to watch porn. There are religious and non religious reasons that he stopped. And it actually took him over a year to fully stop watching porn..
I don't think he shared that part with the guy though. So maybe they didn't know.. This guy was a younger guy just looking for advice, he didn't talk over my husband he was actually listening. but no one wanted him to hear a different veiwpoint.

Yes it is rude.

But really, I dont want to hear someone elses view on it either, so I probably would have got wrapped up in the talk with the rest of them.

These are men though....they dont have talks about how they feel about this and that, they shoot the smurf.

I just had to say, if my husband felt guilty about looking at porn because I didn't like it, and his friends talked him back into it, I would be so pissed. What they did was disrespectful to your husband and the other man, the one they were giving 'advice' to. And my ex always wondered why I didn't like his friends

To me personally? If your husband did bring religion into it, I would have been one of the rude ones and talked over him. Most of the time, when you do something that is against someone else's viewpoint and they bring religion into it, most people can get defensive and feel "attacked". Not saying that hows your husband did it, and like you said you don't know if he even brought it up.

No, he didn't bring up religion at all. He told me that. They just didn't want the guy getting a veiwpoint different then theirs.
