Making your own baby food

posted 4th Jan
If you make your own baby food do your kids like it better? How do you make it? Do you add anything extra?
I have a blender that I will be using. It is almost impossible to get LO to eat baby food. So I'm hoping maybe if I make some he will eat it better. I will be making pears and apples to start with. Do I add anything like sugar or milk or anything?

I've never made it, but I would probably just puree the apples and pears. Probably no on adding the milk or sugar.

I dont know what he likes better cause I never got him jar food, never seen the point.
They tell us to eat non processed, so why by jar food for my baby KWIM?

I just mashed up whatever fruit/veggie with my mixer and sometimes added breastmilk or water if it needed it.

I would never add sugar to his foods, even now at 3 years old.

I never steamed fruits but I did it with veggies. I have a food steamer though that I got for a gift. But they make things you can set over a pot. Just put a little water in the bottom and heat up.

My 1st I didn't and she's such a picky eater since the start of solids. My 2nd loves food and I made hers. I never added sugar or spices. I would add a little water to blend/ purée it better. I never made it to meats bc she wanted them like adults ate. but fruits and veggies I'd bake/blend/ then stuff them into these awesome 1 oz ice cube trays w a lid. My picky eater... I'd add a veggie n fruit mixed ice cube to her apple juice in a non see thru sippy

We used this site:

http://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com/

Basics is that you steam foods in pan on stove or bake it until soft then blend it together. Some foods like Banana and Avocado you don't need to bake or steam just mash. I always froze in ice cube tray. Then when I serve I thaw with warm water with ice cube inside baggy then mix in breastmilk. Do each food for four days to watch for allergy reaction before going to the next new food.

We are thinking of doing baby-led feeding with this baby.

I just steamed in my veggie/rice cooker.

For meats, I did them on the stove, and saute them with veggies and seasonings, added in some homemade veggie or chicken broth, brought it to a boil. Put it in a casserole dish, popped it in the oven for 2 hrs on 275, meat would come out so tender and veggies too, like potato and celery carrots onions etc.....

I would add it to pasta and homemade pasta sauce or to rice with unsalted butter.
