implanon or mirena?

posted 4th Jan
Since its sex related I figured i'd post here...

Which is better, implanon or mirena. Also my Dr. said that there's a new sort of implanon.

I've heard that mirena will let you get pregnant and then make you have a miscarriage. I asked my Dr. and she said that there are risks with it. Also that an etopic (sp?) could also occur. But there are those risks with any form of bc.

I never read anything bad about implanon. So I'm wondering which is better. (Haven't really done much research on it. But what I have seen didn't say anything bad.) Also my Dr. said that sometimes its hard to get the implanon but the clinic usually has a mirena there or they can easily get it. She said we'll talk more about it at my 6week appt and she'll try to order the implanon for me. But I'm curious to see which is better and if I should push to get implanon over mirena even if it takes a bit of time to order it.

(We talked over the phone about it cause I called my clinic asking and they had my Dr. call me back. Also getting the depo shot today so that I'll have 3 months where I don't need to worry and it'll give us time to talk about them and order the one I want and to get it put in. She said that they don't usually put one in until the 8 week check up.)

I've heard a lot of bad things about mirena but I've never had it. I have the implanon right now (its actually the newer form called nexplanon). I've had it since october 29, 2012. I'm having a lot of problems with bleeding :/ I have bled 95% of the time I've had it in. like constant heavy bleeding. I have been debating about getting it taken out. But every time I say I'm going to I'll stop bleeding. But then it'll start up again within a few days. But thats just me. I'm sure it has different effects on everyone. Other than the bleeding I'm not having any issues with it and it wasn't hard for me to get.

That's the one my Dr. told me about. Saying something about that would probably be the one I would get. She said most ppl have issues with bleeding. Said that bleeding should get lighter though. She said that bleeding will be light and i won't have long periods with mirena. So idk which to get. I'm mainly worried about the possible pregnancies and then having them be killed off. I just don't want to get pregnant again anytime soon! Let alone get pregnant and then have miscarriages or eutopic.

Either way, if my period is longer than 3 days, I won't be happy! When I got on the pill I started having week long periods, I was so pissed! (It actually went back to my short periods, but I started having it every month.) I liked my every other month for only 3 days. I did freak out often and then started wondering if I would ever be able to have children though.

I wish the bleeding would hurry up and get lighter for me. This is tmi I know but I woke up two different times last night and had soaked straight through a super long heavy pad with all the bleeding. It would be great bc if I didn't bleed like this. And I understand I wouldn't wanna get pregnant and have a mc. My best friend has mirena and said shes been bleeding since she got it in november.

I have the implanon, almost 2 years now. Haven't gained any extra weight. I have periods maybe every 3 months. Never had heavy bleeding in the beginning. I love it. My friend has had the mirena for like 3 years. She had to have it replaced because it fell out, her boyfriend often complains about feeling the strings from it while having sex. She hates it.

I had the Mirena for 3 1/2 years, I had problems from the very beginning, but since it was my first time being on bc I thought I was just being over dramatic. Turns out, it was put in wrong from the get-go! Every time "that time of the month" came around I felt like I was literally GIVING BIRTH my cramps were unbearable, finally I said I want it out, I don't care. Well, they had to do a sonogram to locate it in the first place, because it had embedded itself in my fallopian tube! I now have 1 functioning fallopian tube, the other is completely filled with fluids (which hurts very badly) they will remove it after I have my chidl I'm pregnant with now.

My cousins husband has the same issues, they just went in and had the Dr snip the string shorter. They can only shorten it so much (he still feels it he says) but maybe it will make it a little less annoying having it shortened.

I'm from Saint Paul also! But I had the implanon and I would not stop bleeding. So I ended up getting the mirena and stopped bleeding within a week and now my periods are very light. I heard you can stop bleeding overall. I would personally recommend the mirena!

Wow! Answers are all over the place... I'm starting to think I should go with implanon first. If that doesn't work then try mirena. Cuase it sounds like mirena could possibly really mess with you inside... that's what I'm worried about the most, is getting messed up cause of it or still getting pregnant and it forcing my body to have a miscarriage. (That's the thing I've read most about it and why people hate it.)

Exactly. I had my first child when I was still a teenager, and when I got married, we had to try to for 3 years to get pregnant, and I miscarried 3 times. We have no idea why, but when I was in my teens I wasn't on bc at all. And up until I had the Mirena put in, I wasn't on anything. Funny how as soon as it gets taken out, my Dr. told me some people can get pregnant immediately, myself, however, would have a 50% less likely chance because I only had 1 functioning tube. For the rest of my life now, (or until I have it removed) I will be in pain because of the fluid in the tube.
