10 month old with sleeping issues

posted 4th Jan
I need a little advice... my dd is almost 10 months old and has always been a super sensitive baby (to make this post shorter, she fits every single one of Dr. Sears "12 features of a high needs baby" lol intense, hyperactive, draining, feeds frequently, demanding, awakens frequently, unsatisfied, unpredictable, super sensitive, can't put baby down, not a self-soother, and separation sensitive.) She's a lot better than she was the first few months, but she's still a hand full compared to my totally laid back 4 year old lol.

She's always needed swaddled, nursed & rocked to sleep (which was fine when it took 10-15 minutes to do). For the past month it take 30-45 minutes or more to get her to fall asleep and lay her down without waking her up. She also wakes up 3+ times a night to either nurse or have her paci put back in her mouth. Anyway, we obviously have sleep association issues but I don't know how to break them. She still needs swaddled to sleep and she needs to learn to fall back to sleep on her own at least once during the night.

Should we try to wean her from the swaddle first before trying to help her learn to fall asleep alone? How do I even wean her from it at this point? Or should I just take it away and suffer with her for a few nights? Any advice will help. I haven't had more than 3 consecutive hours of sleep for months. lol

My son was also high needs. Whenever it got super tough for me I always had to take a step back and tell myself he would only be little once. I know it's hard mama, but it will get easier.

I wouldn't wean her off of the swaddle if she really needs it. Our three year old was also like that as a baby, because of reflux. She wore a swaddle until she was 15 months old. From 12 months old and up though she decided she didn't want her arms wrapped, so she was swaddle from the waist down. Basically she slowly weaned herself. It's difficult to have a baby who wakes up a lot at night. Our oldest didn't sleep through the night until 2 1/2 years old, but we just stuck with it and comforted her when she needed us.

Thanks for that reminder   I'm glad she wasn't my first baby, I wouldn't have had a second if she was lol

I'll probably just keep doing that then. She gets her arms free during the night and she's okay with it, but she won't ever go to sleep unless her arms are wrapped up tight... I swear she's gonna be 5 years old and still asking to be swaddled before bed
