dilation
posted 4th Jan
So im 37 weeks 2 days; and i had my doctors app. yesterday and i still haven't been checked for dilation, but every time i leave he tells me next week we will check; because today he sent me to L&D again because he said his heartbeat was off but after being in L&D for about an hour they told me everything was perfectly normal and he seems extremely healthy and things are going well. but i went with my older sister to her app. Monday and shes been checked sense 34 weeks. when is it normal to be checked for dilation?

They started checking mine at 37 weeks , but i had some ladies tell me not before 38 for them and some say they never checked, but if u really want to get checked just tell your doctor a reminder before you leave the office

each doctors attitude about when and how often to check is different. If you wanna know ask him or her to check you

Here in NZ they dont check you until you're in labor, as far as I know there is no real need for it.

It all depends. I was checked at 38 weeks

Each doctor is different. At 37 weeks my doctors started giving me the option of being checked because there is no reason to unless your having contractions or in labor. I decided to get checked at 40 weeks because we were discussing my induction options.

My doctor didn't check me until 38 weeks and that was just because I started having contractions at 37 weeks.

I started getting checked at 36 weeks.

Mine started checking around 36 or 37 weeks.

There's really no need to check until you're in active labor. I'm sure the only reason some providers do it before then is to satisfy the mother's curiosity. Dilation isn't really a reliable indicator of when you're going to go into labor though.

They checked me at 34 weeks 4 days, because of the major contractions I was having. I had to stay the night at the hospital, and surprisingly they let me go home being 5 centimeters dilated. Why? I have no idea. They sentenced me to bed rest for 3 weeks, and gave me medication to slow down the contractions, but the medicine hasn't worked very well...and everyone I know is saying that they don't see me lasting 3 weeks, maybe a week or so. But a suggestion would be, is to complain to your doctor, because you're worried about this...and if this baby is your first, they're known to be early, than if it was your 2nd....but good luck to you and your upcoming family! Wish you the best!!!(:

I wasnt checked until 39+1 but thats only because i didnt know if my waters had gone or not and then i was checked at full term to have a sweep (even though she couldnt perform one). Dont think they like to mess around until your full term sometimes x
