18 point rule with kids iphone

posted 4th Jan
Idk if any of you have seen this artical but this mom gave her 13 year old a phone.. She made 18 rules for it.. But there is a lot of rules in the rules so its really like 30. I personally think she is blowing it out of poportion! She wont let him take that many pictures because he doesnt needyo document his life.. Really? Memories fade, pictures dont and can be good keep sakes! She said no porn, at 13 they are curious, i understand that if he becomes addicted to it its bad but let the boy explore! I personally like me some porn, haha. She wont let him have his phone until 7:30 am until 9pm and he has to hand it to his mom during school time ao really he only has a few hours with it. If he calls a house phone the parents have to answer or he cant talk. Idk, kids sometimes have to learn their own lessons.. Let the kid live! If you were so concerned and strict about it why give the kid a phone? Its almost like teasing him.

What do you ladies think?

I feel like if I buy my child a phone, any kind of phone, that if I want rules or he can't have it, then so be it. Now I don't know the crazy rules you're talking about, so I can't really comment on that situation. I understand him only having it from 7:30AM-9PM , and I understand him not having it during school hours, though.

I can understand her thinking but I feel it is probably a wee bit extreme. I'm a stickler with education so I do agree with the not taking the phone to school, and not being able to have it past a certain hour on week nights.

That's like when I got my first phone I had to leave it with my mom during school and wasn't allowed to talk on it while I was home. I ended up getting mad and buying my own phone because I was 17 and thought my mom was a moron.

I agree with you. I understand having some rules.... but I feel like she has TOO much.

No phone at school? What if something happens...? I remember I was taking the bus home one day, and it was snowing... the bus driver got PISSED and almost wrecked the bus. He was slamming the breaks and sliding all over the place. I couldn't even call my grandma to come get me because she didn't allow me to have my phone at school. Thankfully, a friend let me use hers. But still. What if that friend hadn't of been there? And I genuinely had an emergency?

And the whole curfew with the phone thing... I won't do it. I remember going over to my friends house, and her mom would take MY phone as well, at like 9pm. Irritated me so bad. If my kid wants to stay up until 2am texting, fine. but be prepared to have your ass up for school at 6am.

I haven't seen that but it seems kind of pointless to me. Why not just let him borrow your phone for a few hours instead of wasting money for another phone and plan. Or hell just get him an iPod touch or some smurf.

It's simple her kid, her phone, her rules. I personally would have bought a cheap phone with no mms or Internet. I get the curfew for the phone and no phone during school.

I have not heard of the story but if she really made up all those rules looks like she doesn't really trust her child with a phone, so why even buy him one. IMO.

Yep. If you're gonna give your kid a phone... at least trust them to make their own decisions with it. Kids make mistakes... I'd rather my kid make them, and learn from them... than just ban them in hopes that they never smurf up (which, let's be real... won't happen).

I understand rules but some are extreme. She made it a point and said he couldnt broadcast his life but she posts it on the internet and goes on talk shows about it? Hypocritical to me. I had a phone at 13 and had rules but if i stayed up late for any reason i had to face the consequences. Especially a iphone! Im 20 and dont even have one, lol. I have a ipod touch and i love it.

Thanks for posting artical, im on ipod cant do it. Just wanted to know what you all thought! At 13 i played sports and went to movies with friends because it was cool at the time lol. I usually used the phone at the theater to call my mom. So maybe he is to busy with life but still.. I think its a tad extreme

Okay, after reading the article I agree with most of the rules... They aren't really harsh, IMO... But the ones I don't agree with I think are way harsh.
