She just wants her kid to not live off his phone, still be able to communicate without technology, not do anything that can effect him for the rest of his life like sexting, be respectful of people during hours of sleep, not miss out on the small things around him because he's on Facebook 24/7. I really like her rules.

Quoting kthx.:" I agree with you. I understand having some rules.... but I feel like she has TOO much. No phone at school? ... [snip!] ... Irritated me so bad. If my kid wants to stay up until 2am texting, fine. but be prepared to have your ass up for school at 6am."

Her mom would take your phone? That smurf would NOT fly with me, lol

YES. Smurf I'd get so pissed   I mean we still ended up sneaking the house phone up to my friends room... but still. She didn't pay for my phone

If you don't like her rules you'd probably hate that I don't have any intention of letting my kids have that stuff at all. It just in unnecessary & doesn't actually help you improve yourself, at all. I don't think that stuff is truly good or helpful. I don't even have a cell phone. I used to - I got rid of it & am better off without it.

The picture thing I disagree with totally. I do think that the phone should have certain hours of use. I know that when I was a teenager, I would stay on the phone 24/7 if I could. My 16 year old sister has her phone taken away at 9PM every night and they monitor her calls/texts, etc.
I think I will do the same thing when I decide to get my son a phone.

I'm going to be one of those parents who just don't give my kids cell phones. People act as if that's terrible, but I survived without one... My kids will be just fine. Though, I agree with the 18 points if you want your kids to have one.

I had one... for a year. Tossed them, and now we only have a landline. I much prefer it that way, glad I'm not the only one!

I think the article was endearing. There really is so much life to live outside of the Internet and technology and so many kids sit in the food court at the mall or at home on the couch with that thing glued to their hands or heads. Some of the rules are strict, but not without warrant.
I don't know what the future holds for technology, as my son is only 1 but if things continue the way they do, I certainly wouldn't hesitate to do what my dad did and say if you want a phone you will work for one, in that case earning it. I payed for my first phone and minutes.

Yuck - I had one for ages. I had to for work & they could call me 24/7, although they thankfully rarely did. I hated being reachable all the time & because they KNEW I had it - then I felt like I *had to* respond. It's more of a tether to me than a help. Everyone knew I had to have it on me all the time for work too - so they also thought I should be reachable all the time.

I think it's a big smurf you to the kid, tbh. Why .ot trust him to make wise decisions on his own? The picture thing is the worst. I have a horrible memory and if it wasnt for pictures, I wouldn't remember anything.
