obviously only thugs and criminals are the people who break into homes, that's going to be the same for any country.

The news tends to selectively report incidents. Like when a man went into a school with a gun and was stopped by a principal who was carrying.

Or last month when a man went into a restaurant to kill his ex i believe, shot her, and went into the movie theater next door to shoot some more people, and was shot by a woman who was carrying, before he could kill anyone else.

Gun bans do not stop people from getting guns. It stops law abiding citizens from getting them. Criminals will continue to do whatever they want.

Connecticut has an assault weapon ban....

Washing DC has the highest gun crime rate....and the lowest gun per household rate.

The number of guns have nothing to do with it.

But here no one is carrying guns! I'm speaking honestly. Maybe like mafia types, or high up drug dealers but they keep their violence to their stuff If that makes sense.
None of the criminals breaking into my home would have a gun, they'd be desperate heroin addicts. I'd give them my stuff and run away.

The likely hood of a guy shooting his wife then trying to shoot others is beyond minuscule because there are far less guns in circulation.

Here is today's news from Sydney, the highest populated city.

Read the titles, no gun issues, a woman was stabbed, in her calf. That's the top news.

The two stories I mentioned were not big news stories either. They barely made any news at all. Which is my point. News is selectively punished.

The US has 311 Billion people.
Australia has 22 Billion.

Australia essentially is the state of Florida compared to the US in population.

We also have an insane amount of countries feeding into the US which causes typical immigration issues. People do things one way in their country, come here, and expect to do it the same.

Whereas Australia is more or less Australia. People move there, sure, but as a society really can't be compared to the US because it's apples and oranges.

News is not selectively published here, we have a very left wing public broadcaster. A shooting would 100% be published, it's very news worthy.
Lmfao re your immigration statement. What do you think australia is? A country of immigrants. Without immigration we'd have a declining population. What does country of birth have to do with anything?
Lol you'd enjoy the d&d section here.

Florida with a president and government would be a well run state, but we're a LOT of floridas.

With a left winged reporter, I doubt there are many stories reported that would make people feel the need to defend themselves.

Lol
We don't have a president.

We have a very liberal, free media. Stories regarding shootings would not be selectively published that's not how things operate here. At least 2-3 Aussies on here have degrees in journalism, I can link if you like.

The point of what I'm getting at, of was trying to is you passed a very strong nose in the air opinion on something you really don't understand. Our gun buy back, the baby bonus and economic stimulus plan.
I ask questions about us stuff I don't get, I'm intrigued to find out, I try not to pass judgement.

My point is that president or not, if florida was the US, it would be a lot easier to manage.

Paying people 5k and 2k to having children is absurd. Here we have enough people popping out kids to get more welfare and it's not even close to that amount. I can't imagine paying them to procreate.

And your gun buy back proved to jump start crime by 30%....which is why I find it to be a very poor decision.

Australia also has double the amount of drunk driving deaths that the US....which is crazy because Australia is 7% of the size of the US.

I totally agree re the drink driving. It's appalling. I believe we should look to the us for answers. You turn 18 here, you can buy alcohol and get your drivers licence. It's ridiculous. There's also a culture here where teen drinking is encouraged and embedded in society. Getting black out drunk as an 18 plus year old is the norm. Alcohol is an issue. We do drink to excess, I try to look elsewhere as to how I can educate my own children differently. I am trying to take a more euro approach, drinking as a pleasure with meals etc. when I took my newborns to mothers groups the person hosting would always provide wine which seems weird as an afternoon event with new mothers.

The baby bonus is for a few reasons.
1. It is put back into the economy and stimulates economic growth do not a governmental loss
2. It does perhaps encourage babies which the govt wants, the saying here is 'have one for you, one for your partner, one for your country'. It increases population and in return stimulates the economy.
3. It fills a gap for low income earners to buy necessities.
Please remember its expensive here. A crib is $1000+, a box of diapers $60 etc.

Do people abuse it? I can't see how, it's expensive buying baby stuff!

It was a lump sum initially, now it's payments made fortnightly for 6 months.

There are many inaccuracies in what she said and so many pointless facts.
I was too drunk to argue properly and too busy watching news which selectively doesn't show gun violence on my $5000 tv I bought with govt assistance.
You know her type, argues pointlessly on and on even with no knowledge of something.
She seems to know much more a about Australian than Australians do. SHE'S A FREAKIN GENIUS!
