well.... i did do CIO for my daughter, but not when she was 3 weeks. we did it around 4 or 5 months. i'm not saying it's everyone's cup of tea, and honestly, i worked nights, so i wasn't usually there when it was happening (her dad was). and i explicitly told him she is to cry no longer than 20 minutes. idk. it worked for her and for us. she was sleeping through the night (7pm to 7am) in about a week.

but i probably would have failed if i had been home, and i certainly couldn't have brought myself to do it at only a few weeks.

Didn't breast feed at all and don't like commercial formula, so we gave her goat's milk mixed with molasses (per her pedi).

Oh wow, that's cool, I didn't know you could give babies that from the start. Very interesting

Well, no... I wouldn't "know how" because I've never practiced it.

So why would you agree to what the other mother said, IF you have never done it or know how to do it.

You do not just let the kid lay in bed and scream.

My grandparents, great grandparents, on back were/are farmers and they never had time to breastfeed during harvest season (great grandma had 14 kids). They always handed youngest baby off to another child to feed goat milk and molasses so the rest could work in the field.

What a wonderful start... to a short life of poverty and hardship.

That's cool, I've heard of people using goat's milk before.

Actually, there IS a method that involve just leaving baby to cry called the Weissbluth. Ferber "allows" you to check on your baby and leave baby for longer and longer intervals. Just so you don't dig yourself a deeper hole.

Short life of poverty and hardship? Hardly. Grandma (who's mom had 14 kids) is 89 years old and still works with Grandpa on the farm. All but one of her brothers and sisters is living and the one that died got kicked in the head by a cow. They all lived through the Dust Bowl, the stock market crash, WWII, Korea, etc and are still going strong.

Nah, instead of formula. It's the closest thing to human milk.

What are you talking about? I agreed that for me (and her too, obviously) there are better alternatives than letting your newborn lay in their bed and cry.
