Poopy problems (tmi)

posted 3rd Jan
My babygirl is 14 months old, && everytime she tries to go potty she just screams her little head off. It's really hard, and different each time. Some time it even looks like little pellets. When we go to the doctor I tell them each time. One told me to give her juice, which doesn't help. && one told me that it's just how she is. But it just breaks my heart to see her in pain everytime she tries to go potty. Has any other mommies experienced this with their LO's ? How do you help them to go ? Eri don't like to be touched when she's going so I can't comfort her like I would like too.
Thanks for the help girls !

She's constipated. Try prunes, apples, water or pears

Also what's her diet like? If she eats a lot of processed foods that can really cause it. How much milk is she drinking?

You can try a little bit of prune juice to soften the stool.

She is constipated! I am mad at the Dr who said that is just how she is. I would Up her fiber big time and then also up water to help flush the fiber and that should help big time

This sounds Excatly like my little boy! We had to give him miralax daily now, he is seeing a pediatric GI doctor now too! But the miralax and giving him more fiber helped him out!

Milk with her breakfast and at bedtime, for lunch && snacks I give her juice. We've tried prune juice, apple juice, etc. Nothing seems to help her poor tummy. ): && she's a good eater. She eats a lot, mostly what I eat cause she has a bunch of teeth, as long as it's soft enough to chew.

My kids both had issues with constipation and passing gas, theirs was due to a milk allergy. My son couldn't have whole milk until 2 years and my daughter, who's almost three still can't have regular milk any amount will cause her to get plugged up and be in a lot of pain when she tries to potty. I don't know if this helps but it's just my experience.

Sure, "it's just how she is," but you can certainly help her.
i used to be a pediatric nutritionist at a hospital AND i have a constipation-prone toddler.
FIRST - avoid constipating foods.
The common ones are bananas, rice, apple sauce and cheeses. Some kids and adults find nearly all dairy to make their poop hard so you may want to try a couple of days without milk/dairy to see if that helps. Your LO NEEDS dairy so that would not be a long-term recommendation but just to see if that seems to be part of the problem.
Second - try fruit NECTARS like apricot nectar and pear nectar. Goya makes them as well as some other brands. They are very sweet and lots of toddlers like them. Do not dilute the juice/nectar as long as the problem is going on. Once the poop is softer you can consider diluted juices/nectars again.

try some "help from below." If the poop is too hard and round to come out without pain try Pedi-lax glycerin enemas or glycerin suppositiries
. They are easy to do and get results. Her little butt probably hurts so much that she is delaying having the poop... which makes for a harder, rounder poop.

I hope that helps.
