Pregnancy and Laws

Does anyone know anything about pregnancy and laws? I work full time in construction, and Im getting ready to tell my boss tomorrow that Im expecting. We dont have a maternity policy, he always said he didnt need one since most of the employees are male. Out of like 50 there are 3 females, 2 of which cant have kids...so he didnt need a maternity policy for just me I guess.

So here I am, pregnant with NOTHING to stand on. I know that once I start to show I wont be able to go on jobsites (against the law), and well its not technically part of my job he likes me to walk jobsites to expand my knowledge. He is VERY demanding, if you take time off you are expected to make it (working nights of weekends) Im a salary employee and get 5 days a year for vacation, and yet still expected to make time up if I take a vacation or time off.

Im just wondering if there is any laws that protect me, I just need to make sure I can work my job and not be bullied into quitting or get fired for being pregnant.

Its against the law for a pregnant women to be on a construction site?

Maybe not "law" but I know it says something about being pregnant on a jobsite. Idk a liability I guess? Hmmm, Im gonna have to look into that one. I know I read it years ago, but your right it does sound like discrimination.

Fmla leave allows you to take 6 weeks leave if your been there under a yr and 12 weeks for workin over a year. They have to save your job for you and cannot fire you for being preg. That's discrimination. Idk why u can't be on site while showing. That's weird.

The only thing I think that may get around discrimination is if the job endangers your well being.

I'm sorry I'm stuck on 5 days a year for vacation. Aren't there laws on that in the US?

HA!!! We aren't guaranteed smurf here. That's just te employer being "nice". I get 30 hrs vacation and 24 hrs sick. And I'm lucky to even have that

I think thats where not being able to go on jobsites comes in. Thats what freaks me out! He will say "you cant do your job, so I cant have you working for me"

Um no, my old boss (who was my dad) didnt even give paid vacations. lol I dont have sick leave either.

Really? Where can I find these? I have worked at the same place going on 9yrs, but 2yrs with the new owner.

That's horrific.

Here an employer legally has to give a full time employee 4 weeks annual leave and 10 days paid sick leave. Part time staff get a pro-rata amount.
