Yeah I'm going to talk to them about it at my next appt. Another thing that I have heard is if I want to be all the way out, my husband wouldn't be allowed to go back with me during the surgery. I def don't want him to miss seeing his son for the 1st time. Idk how true that is though, I'll have to clarify it with my Dr.

Id do it again..except the whole my water breaking unexpectidly and having to go on an ambulance ride lol

If you do it for any reason, do it so you can see your baby asap. As long as theyre doing ok, you can even get a kiss or 5 in. I got nauseous during surgery, and it was odd.. but that moment I heard him cry, and saw him for the first time.. I wouldnt trade it for anything. They give you meds during if you get sick, cold, or have a headache. I kinda took a nap during haha

So what's it like, what do you feel during a planned c-section? I assume they took your baby away for a while to get you all back together. How soon were you able to keep him/her? I felt like such a bad mom bc I was in so much pain afterwords that I could barely hold my daughter.

I've heard if you're knocked out nobody is allowed to be with you. It's the same when anyone is put to sleep for any reason though.

Its weird, but youre numb. You feel some tugs and pulls and it takes your breath when they push the baby out. Once they get the baby out they check them out and clean them up. They let me know what they were doing, called out measurements. Then they let me keep him for a pretty long time before they kicked my husband out and took him away. I spent 2 hours in recovery, then went to my room. They juiced me up by then..within the hour of being in my room, I had the baby back.

But no, they dont let anyone back with you during surgery if youre knocked out. My husband stayed right outside and met my son when he came out.

If it makes you feel any better, my sisters sisterinlaw had a ceserean today, she was terrified but had no choice. She is doing great!

Edit: I apologize for this being so long :/ Long story short, I would have a planned c-section again any day and be awake. My first c-section/delivery wasn't what I wanted or expected it to be but the second and third time were a breeze. You can also bring two people in there with you, the more support the better
A planned c-section is 100 times better than an emergency one. Or at least it was in my case. I labored for 27 1/2 hours, pushed for 2 hours and her head was half way out of me when my doctor said she was drowning and I needed to get a c-section done. My epidural quit working an hour into pushing so when I got to the OR, they put the highest, legal, amount of the epidural medication in me and I could still feel him cutting me open. The scissors being stuck to my skin, everything   Once she was out, I was out. Harley was in there for maybe 5 minutes before they made him leave again. I don't remember seeing her at all until I woke up after recovery 4 hours later. With MacKenzie (same hospital/scheduled) they let me labor 0-4cm before letting me go back. Once they wheeled me back to the OR and put the spinal in then laid me down, etc. Brought Harley in and proceeded with the surgery. We got to see her and he got to hold her next to me while they stitched me back up. Once he was on the last layer of skin, they took him and her to the nursery where they stayed until I went to recovery, then they came to me. With Melanie, it was SO much easier! New hospital, smarter doctors, better story. I got to walk to the OR and they put the spinal in and laid me down. He started cutting then brought Harley in. I did not feel anything at all. I also got to hold her for a minute on my chest while they were gluing me up. They weighed her, cleaned her off, etc let me hold her then Harley held her next to me for a few minutes, they took them to the nursery but they were out when I was being wheeled to my recovery room. I got baby the second I was in there. I wasn't drugged up or anything, I just couldn't move my body because of the spinal still being in affect. Recovery is also a LOT better with a scheduled. Second time, recovery took me 2 weeks (compared to 9 with my first) the third time, I was up and walking the next day with no pain whatsoever. I tried to refuse the Ibuprofen but they said I wasn't allowed so I took them every 8 hours. But once I left 48 hours later, I had to keep reminding myself that I'd just had a "major surgery" and even forgot twice and jumped off my porch step like I normally do. I don't know if it was the doctor's who did my surgery or because I've been through it before but I was so happy to have no pain because I had kids to keep up with. 4 months later and we're still doing great. I do know that with planned/awake c-sections, Chris can be in there but if you're out, he won't be allowed because problems can occur more with being put under. SouthView told me that when I was pregnant with MacKenzie because of the way things went with Madyson. I will admit that with Melanie I had a panic attack in my pre-op room but once I got to the OR, I was okay.

i see that happening to me too....getting back there and having a serious panic attack. did they offer you any drugs or anything to calm you down before they started?? u went to southview, right? u didn't like them? and what do u mean they let u labor before the surgery? were u already in labor when u went in?

With Madyson and MacKenzie. I went to Atrium with Melanie. They gave me anti nausea meds but that was it. As for labor, they cathed me the minute I was in the pre-op room after registering and it sent me into labor. They didn't believe me and said it was my body adjusting to the cath. 45 minutes later and me screaming, they finally came in/checked me, I was 4cm dilated and having contractions 3 minutes apart. They called the dr and 35 minutes later I was in the OR. Had a bad experience both times at SouthView so opted for Atrium with her. I was treated so much better there thank goodness.

Even if they don't "support" VBACs, you do not have to get a cesarean. Legally, no doctor can forcibly put you under the knife. What that entails is simply not going in for a scheduled cesarean and just waiting to go into labor, going against medical advice. I know it's scary taking responsibility for your own labor. If something were to go wrong, you simply wouldn't be allowed to sue. Have you looked into midwives?

If you're actually wanting to do the c-section, look into family-centered cesareans or "natural" cesareans. If you want a natural cesarean, you might need to find a new doctor that would support it. Not all doctors are okay with involving the mother. You would need to be conscious for it. It would be more beneficial to be conscious, even if you were behind a curtain. Personally, I'd rather be awake for a cesarean if I were to ever get one.

I just need to say two things.
One, I did NOT know you could miss a scheduled c-section date and go on your own. Had I known that, I may not have went to my last one (wanted a VBA2C so bad but my doctor didn't practice VBAC)
And two, that video actually made me a little nauseated   I've had 3 c-sections and I would NEVER want to see baby being cut out of me. It was kind of freaky lol But I didn't know that was even allowed...learn something new everyday

I can only imagine it being so scary after going through something like that. But I think that you should try to do it awake.. And if you do start freaking out they will put you under. But I didn't even know that they had started when they started.. All I could feel was pushing and pulling and pressure.. I am scared to death of having another c section because the recovery SUCKS! but my dr is letting try a VBAC if I go into labor on my own... good luck<3
