When to feed baby water

posted 3rd Jan
My daughter is now six months old and doctor just told me to start feeding her more foods since she is only in her 15th percentile for weight. So I am starting her on more protein filled foods. Since she is eating more solid food and less formula when should I start giving her water while she eats. She has been eating solid foods since she was four months so it has been two months of eating solids

You shouldn't if she is underweight.
You should be feeding her more formula and less solids.

If you want her to gain weight, give her more formula. Not food.

One of the reasons why she is under weight is because since she was born she never really liked eating from bottle. Once I started her on foods she was eating more but now she's just not gaining a lot of weight. She still doesn't like a bottle too often though

She needs MORE bottles, not less.

My LO is almost 7 months and I give her little drinks of water with her food. She doesn't care for it too much so she won't drink a lot anyways.

And she should be getting all the fluids she needs from the formula. Too much water is bad for babies.

my son is 4 months old and he gets 1 bottle of water periodically a day. mostly i give him some after he eats cause hes on solids now and than after he eats he usually drinks a bottle as well. If you feel like shes ready to drink a little bit of water than go for it. What right is it for any of us to judge. If you are feeding her rice cereal or oatmeal though make sure to make it with formula and not water to make sure she gets as much formula in her as possible though

She needs the formula, not solids..they are just practice until a year old..(and yes my son foes get solids, but he is 8 months old, and gets most food through formula and he is gaining weight appropiately...she should be getting most of her "food" through formula.. I mean yeah some babies are small anyways but she is in the 15th percentile, obviously she hasn't been getting enough formula. They should get all the water they need through that where you don't need to give them just water..I know some people say its your baby you know whats right but come on now the baby needs formula (or breastmilk if you feed that way)

Nobody's judging, she asked when to give water and people are answering.

And it's not really a judgement...a little bit of water probably won't hurt but too much is dangerous because their kidneys can't process it. So it's something to be discussed with the pediatrician for sure.

ETA: And formula contains more calories and fat than most foods you would give to baby, so like everyone else said...if it's a weight issue, she needs more formula, not more solids.
