re: When to buy new cabinets

I guess in the long run it will probably be DH.

I posted this about his student loan money and wanting to buy a new stove.

When we went to the store, he bought the most expensive stove he thought was best( and it was) and then bought a matching microwave and dishwasher, and financed it.

So I guess when the time comes it might be reversed.

Hopefully if we get enough back and enough from the student loans, it will pay off everything anyways. We don't have much debt. or at least not to me.

Then cut up your cards so you can not use them. It sounds like you guys need a better money management plan in general. If I were you I would pay off my debt, and take 500$ out of my return for a savings that is for emergencies only. Then I would save monthly for my wants like getting new cabinets. If you don't start a savings you will live in a debt cycle.

That's what I'm thinking. Like pay down the cards so there's only like 2 more months to pay on them, or one more car payment, then I can have a small savings in case something happens. So I don't have to charge it and just rack up debt. We haven't been able to do that because right when we bought the house, I was fired. And now I'm just working from home, which doesn't pay much. And it sucks.

That sucks. Just start saving what you can, I know it's frustering waiting to fix things, but the less debt you have the more you free you will be.

We don't use our cards unless it's an emergency, for a home repair or something.

The plan was obviously not to live like this, but right after we bought the house, I got fired from a really good job. And we've just never been able to catch up. And at that time DH was working 2 jobs, but now he's just down to one and he's working hard for advancement but it's not going to happen for a while since he just started.

So it's kind of just riding it out until we can catch up. And we usually get pretty close and then something breaks again.

This last time it was my sewing machine. I couldn't keep my business open without a better sewing machine, and we had to spend his bonus from work and charge the rest it totally sucked.

I think the worst part is that even if we do pay it off, it's not like it will open more money, because if we do pay it all off in 6 months, all that money would go directly to student loans because DH said he NEEDED to get his bachelors degree.

Which would be fine if it came with a pay raise at work, which it doesn't. And they seriously want like 800-1000 a month for all his student loans.

So even if we get out of debt, we're still smurfed.

I hate student loans. Can he get a job working for the government so they will pay his loans?

Probably, it's for business management with internet technology as a speciality or something like that.

I know that job he's working at, has a pretty good level for advancement and lots of bonuses, but because he's only been there since Nov 1 he has to wait a while you know? To really cash in on those.

He does a lot of server work and building servers, and works for a small business and is the only one that can do it, so he has good room for advancement. But we just have to wait.

I on the other hand, pretty much got black balled black listed whatever, because I was fired so suddenly with no explanation or anything, I was unable to obtain references for my work before I left, I unfortunately had to give up my career and will never work in that field again.

When I went to apply for Obama's Retraining as a displaced worker. I unfortunately screwed myself, I had moved from Oregon to Washington, and Washington laws said I needed to live here for a year(I had just moved 3 months prior) and be on unemployment to apply. Because I was 6 months pregnant when I fired and the school year had already started, I had to wait until after I had the baby, and then reapply the following school year to start the program(because my 1 year would be in June).

Well in April, they cut off unemployment extensions in Oregon(which is where I had my unemployment through because I worked there), so I was smurfed regardless, and just gave up.

Yeah it all happened so quickly you know? And I didn't want to charge thousands of dollars in school and childcare if I couldn't get into a program. I had only one professional reference. And all the jobs were asking for 3 or more. So no one would hire me.

I just tossed it all aside and just went all in crocheting and knitting things for babies and sewing diapers. It makes a little money, and it's helpful to help try to get down the debt. So that's what we do.

And DH tries too. He negotiates with his boss to get things he wants for a reasonable price. He'll host servers here as long as his boss pays half the internet bill. His boss helps with the cell phone bill so he can take phone calls at home. Paid for a new MAC computer so he can work at home, and they're all getting iPad minis for work. So yeah, we're getting there, slowly. And hopefully eventually it will add up in the long run. We just all have to tough it out for a while.
