Devastated ...

posted 3rd Jan
So Chelsea had her 2 week nurses visit to see if she's gained back her weight. Last appointment she was 5 lbs 15 oz (6 lbs 11 oz at birth), and this appointment was only 5 lbs 14 oz. So now, since she isn't gaining at all, we have to supplement with formula
I REALLY hope she gains in this next week so i can BF her again. I absolutely hate having to give her formula, it kills me.

Aww sorry sweet.
Hopefully you can BF again soon
I know how you feel though. I tried breast feeding for weeks but he just couldnt latch on so ended up having to go with formula.

Good luck

That has to be hard but knowing that you're doing what is BEST for your LO in this situation hopefully helps you to feel better abou it. Just make sure you're still putting her to your breast as much as possible to keep your supply up. Good luck mama!

You are doing what is best for your little girl!! keep pumping or let her comfort nurse so when you do get to nurse again you will have a supply for her =] keep your head up!!

As soon as i can get a ride, we're going to go get a pump, but the pedi still wants us using formula. How often should i pump? How often should she be on the boob?

Put her to your breast as often as possible, really AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE. I literally sat in the same spot for the first month just switching my daughter from one breast to the other. Nursing 24/7 around the clock. I had to in order to get my supply up to meet her needs and also I needed her to work on her latch. It was miserable for a while but it was I had to do.

If i do that, how do i know when to give her formula? I got a pump, and i've pumped 3 times for a total of an hour and a half and only got 2 1/2 oz

Don't ever base your supply on what you are pumping. I breastfed little man for 6 months, and could never pump as much as I knew he was getting. A lot of consultants will tell you that as well. I know that you're going to need to start supplementing for a little bit; however, keep her on the boob. Each time that she eats, start on the boob- feed her your normal amount of time. If she seems hungry then supplement afterwards.

pump every 2-4 hours---you should be pumping 8-10 times in a 24 hour period. and don't worry about how much comes out (I promise it is not the same amount ur LO gets)
