Changing OBs?

posted 3rd Jan
This has been on my mind a lot. I feel like I need to change OBs. I don't feel as though my OB takes my medical care seriously. I knew from the start that I needed progesterone suppositories ASAP, but I had to beg with the nurses, because they said I didn't need them. They said my levels were fine. With my last pregnancy, they dropped from 21 to 6 in less than a week. My levels are NOT fine. So after much coercing, they prescribed them for me, after making me feel crazy for wanting meds I didn't "need". I went through the same battle with my Lovenox injections. I know I have a clotting disorder, but my doc made me wait 3 weeks before prescribing them. I told them I wasn't comfortable waiting that long, but they didn't care. I feel like I've had to dictate every step of my medical care. They weren't going to prescribe any of the meds I needed. I practically had to force them. I figured with my history, my doc would want to see me more often, but I have a 5 week gap between my last appointment and my next appointment. How am I supposed to know that everything is okay? I just want to find someone who takes me seriously, someone who wants my pregnancy to be successful. I don't feel like I'm getting that now. If you were in my shoes, would you change OBs? I don't even know how to go about doing so. I don't want to stay with this practice if I do change. How do I find someone who will listen to me? Do I have to make appointments with each doctor and explain my history and what not? Does anyone have experience with this?

I would for sure switch. I wish u were here. I have the best dr for you. But just ask when u call. Tell them they don't take your issues seriously and you need a dr who is familiar and willing to work with skmekne with the issues u have. Or ask around people in yours area who they recommend.

I just switched my OB at 30 weeks. I have a friend who works in labor and delivery and I asked her who she recommended, called that doctor up told them I wanted to switch doctors and they made me an appointment like it was nothing.

I would switch I had a new OB at the beginning of this pregnancy due to my old OB leaving the practice and I hated her because of my last pregnancy and I was diabetic she kept trying to find any and all reason's to have me abort because diabetics must only have deformed defected children ~rolls eyes~ at 14 weeks I had spoken with the ultrasound tech and she convinced me I should switch doctors and it was the best decision I ever made no one will ever be as good as my first doctor but the one I switched to is pretty dang close :-)

Did you 'interview' the doctor before switching?

If you can find any local mom groups on fb or something I would ask around there. I got a lot of great personal experience info from a local CD group.

I would def switch or ask to be seen by a maternal fetal medicine dr to make sure that you're getting the best care and be closely followed. in my first pregnancy i felt as though i wasn't paid attention to and when i told a dr that is part of te practice that something didn't feel right she insisted that i was just having first time mom jitters, two weeks later i delivered my stillborn baby. i was livid that no one listened... the next pregnancy i insisted to see a specialist that was over a hour away.. they decided that since they dropped the ball the first time that they would listen.. i ended up getting amazing care from HR drs.

I'm familiar with several of the local OBs. There's only one 'high risk' doc in town, but I don't know if my situation would be 'high risk' enough for him. Plus, I've heard he's an smurf.

Well I went to the first appointment with her told her what my concerns were and decided I liked her. I didn't meet with her before my appointment but I also know I would have found a different doctor if I would not of liked her.

I'm just worried that all the other OBs will feel the same way... that I don't need to be monitored more closely... that I'm just paranoid.

As long as you can find someone who will take you seriously....just curious, is your current OB male or female?

Male.

I was just talking to a friend of mine about this. She's pregnant for the second time. Had a male the first time and now has a female OB. She said that her female OB takes her seriously, because she can relate.
