Potty Training question and help

I wanted to know how old your kids were when they were potty trained? Did you have 'trouble'? Like did they fight you to NOT do it?
I have B/G Twins (28 months) and DS will willing pee in the potty every night at bathtime and we praise him unconditionally. DD will sit on it and do nothing and we praise her for trying.
During the day I will ask or say things like 'wanna go use the potty?' or 'Let's go potty!' and I will act excited about it. DD will simply look at me and say 'No Mommy' and sometimes DS will say No and sometimes he will go pee in the potty, but not every time. I dont fight cause i know that it may scare them, especially her since she hasnt even used the potty yet.. Am I doing the right things? Do I need to try a different approach? And is it odd that they are almost 2 1/2 and aren't even attempting to potty train??

I get mixed signals like her saying No mommy, no potty. but yet she will let me know as soon as she has a dirty or too wet diaper. she doesnt like not having a clean diaper. Any advice would be appreciated. TIA

My son was fully trained at 3 years.

I waited until K told me she was ready (34 months old). She woke up one day-took off her diaper and said she was a big girl. That was that. I think she has had 2 accidents since and one was recently-totally random.

M told me she was ready Thanksgiving 2011-22 months old. Well, she was ready only because her sister used the potty. It took a year to get it consistent however once she started using the potty in 2011 she has never had a poopy diaper since-except when she was really sick with diarrhea in early 2012. She still wears a diaper for naps and to bed-she cant control that yet.

Do you use any rewards besides praise? I honestly remember being potty-trained myself, and I am certain I was not yet 3 y.o. or more. I remember sitting on the potty (only one incident, but a very clear memory, OK) and looking at the candy cane Mom had hung above the sink which I could have after I went and then washed my hands. Okay, this was more than 30 years ago and I don't know what practices are recommended these days, but my nephews are 4-8 and my SIL used rewards with them as well (matchbox cars).
I know a daycare that told some parents the kid had to be trained once he turned 3 (they started then, I mean).
My mom swears by the book something about "potty train in a day" and says you let them go w/o any diaper and give them a ton to drink. I don't remember that she did that with me, but I do think she used it with some of my 4 siblings or possibly earlier in my training that I don't remember.

No I guess I neve thought of a reward! And we have TONS of candy canes!!! I just might try that. thanks!
