Influenza?

posted 3rd Jan
i was diagnosed with influenza a couple of days ago, have been miserable for about 5 days now, anyway it has been hitting everyone in the house fast and hard. my son woke up at 4 AM burning up, i gave him some tylenol, but he threw it up about 20 minutes later. he has since thrown up one more time around 11:30, he isn't having a cough or runny/stuffy nose that i can tell. no diarrhea (he was actually quite constipated yesterday) could this still be actual influenza or is it just a stomach bug? (no one has a stomach bug in the house but we all have the actual flu- aches/pains, fever, cough, ect)

Sounds more like a GI bug to me. Influenza is a respiratory bug, not a GI bug, contrary to popular belief. How old is he? Try your best to keep him hydrated. Pedialyte (or watered down Gatorade) will help keep his electrolytes in check.

he's 2. i know the flu is a respiratory bug, that's what everyone in the house has, well i was the only one who was tested but i know for sure i have influenza. and i've read influenza can cause nausea/vomiting in young children. that's why i was asking.

OP, I hope every one makes it through this quickly. Defintely work on hydration, but only tiny bits of liquid at once. If you rush or overdo the liquids, it will just come back up.
Squeaky,
Plenty of influenza strains have gastrointestinal symptoms as well as the respiratory issues. I was hospitalized for the influenza a couple of years ago and while the sore throat, fever aches and so on started first, I vomited everything that went in orally.
