Gender Ultrasound
posted 3rd Jan
Okay so I just wanted to know when I should schedule a gender ultrasound. I'm 14 weeks today and we currently have no insurance because we are in a waiting period for hubby's work insurance since he transferred companies..anyway I was just curious as to when we should schedule since we will have to pay out of pocket and do not want to wait until March. Besides, I really need to get in for an appt anyway because I haven't gone yet due to having to pay out of pocket. Obviously we have thought about some.sort of state assistance or temporary maternity coverage until then but we don't qualify for any of it.

Are you getting any prenatal care?

Im not sure on the whole no insurance thing. Id go ahead and set up that appointment with a doctor. Then your doctor will have to put in for an ultrasound so its really up to them when it scheduled. Also you could check around for places that do ultrasounds for pregnant women but im not sure if theyll schedule you if youre not under the care of a doctor.

I work full tiem but my company doesn't offer insurance of any kind. But I still get state assistance. Granted because I got overtime on a few checks, they took it away on the first so I am screwed.

well, you could wait 4-6 weeks so it will be between 18-20 weeks along. You don't want to go too early just in case its hard to make a confident guess of gender. If they aren't too sure or say they can't get a good look at the genital area, then you will have paid for an ultrasound for nothing

The nurse told me they wont be able to tell what the gender is till im 20 eeeks so we went to a 3d ultrasound when I was 15 Weeks &6 days and we found out were having a boy! (:

Thanks for the responses, no I am not receiving any prenatal care as of right now. We just recently moved and just got our drivers licenses changed over this past week so I couldn't make an appt until then because they wouldn't take me with an out of state license. Thankfully there are two places that discount for self pay patients with no insurance. I just need to find out which is cheaper and schedule an appointment. I was hoping I could call and schedule an appt and kill two birds with one stone and get an ultrasound same day. I'm afraid they will want to do an ultrasound when I make the initial appt and I really don't want to pay for it unless I have a good chance of seeing the gender also.
