I didn't know when would be the best time to get it, & when would be the best time to have the Bridesmaids all come together to get their dresses.

I'm going to have a white dress with Purple accents, & then my BridesMaids are going to be Purple, then yellow ect.

I picked my dress out before we were engaged lol. But I went and ordered it 7 months before the wedding, I think. It had to be special ordered and took 6 months to come in. I paid for all the girl's dresses including the flower girl. We didn't ask anyone to pay for anything. Thank god his parents offered to pay for all the tuxes though lol.

I bought my dress 15 months before my wedding. They paid for their dresses. I've paid for my own dresses in weddings I've been in.

I ordered my wedding dress 11 months before the wedding, it came in 6 months before the wedding. I had a fiting the day i went to pick it up, 5 months before, and another fitting 3 months before. I was able to pick it up, fitted perfectly, steamed and stuffed 2 weeks before the wedding.

My bridemaids all had different colored dresses.
I would go 3-6 months before the wedding personally. With all the bridesmaids.

When we got engaged, the date we choose for the wedding was only like 120 days away, so we didn't have a whole lot of time to wait. I bought my wedding dress like a week or two after the engagement off the rack, because I would've had to wait about 12 weeks for one to be delivered if not and although it would arrive before the wedding itself, cutting it that close (like 3 weeks before the wedding) was WAY too stressful to even think about. I'd suggest looking for one AT LEAST 4 months before the big day, but 5 or 6 would be better so you'll have plenty of time for any alterations if necessary.

We paid for all the bridal party's attire. I can't imagine asking someone - your closest friends who mean the world to you - to be a part of your wedding and then slapping them with a $300 dress fee or something, expecting them to buy all their accessories and what have you. It's horribly rude, in my opinion. If you ask someone to be in your wedding, they shouldn't pay.

a year to 9months before your wedding. and no I made them pay for theirs but I looked for good deals. There was a place close to were I live that if you by 3 or more of the same dress they were only $99.00, it was select styles but still really cute dresses.

But I paid for the jewelry, and to get their hair done. and let them pay for their shoes so they could get what they wanted as long as they were black.

SOs mum paid for the bridesmaids dresses (the bridesmaids are her daughter and stepdaughter I think that's why she paid)

It all depends on how far away your wedding is and what type of dress you want. If you want a custom made or a made to order dress that could take awhile to be made and sent over and will then possibly need to be taken in I would order it 3 or 4 months in advance. My wedding is in Feb and I ordered my dress in April last year (it was a made to order dress from America so it had quite a way to come). It didn't get here until the end of December.

It also depends on what time of year you are getting married. I went for mine in early March and they said that was very late to be buying for needing it by end of May. That was at David's Bridal. It arrived in time but I would suggest going at least a month sooner so you don't stress. Also, if you need any alterations that will require longer, too. My mom did my alterations so I didn't have to worry about a queue for that.
My future SIL was my maid of honor and already had a dress she'd worn for a friend's wedding and was planning to wear the next month for another friend's wedding so that's why I went with that color. I didn't offer to pay for the other ones though and they tried to get ones that they could wear again. I told them to pick anything in that color, so they each had a different style and I hoped it was something they would wear again.
