Where and Why??

posted 3rd Jan
If you absolutely LOVE where you live...tell me where it is that you live and WHY it is the best place to live. What makes it so special? The view? The prices? What? I am just curious. I *like* where I live, but I don't want to be here forever. I live in Illinois and in a super small country town. I love the small town lifestyle because hardly anything bad EVER happens. Not to mention our town is in a valley and we never get tornadoes or flooding or anything there. It is really safe and a decent school. I love not feeling crowded and over-whelmed by a bunch of people. The downsides are that everyone knows everyone and everything about everyone..literally. You can sleep with something at 3am and only you two know about it and by 7am everyone knows lol. And it isn't exactly the prettiest place to live because we are surrounded by cornfields. There are literally cornfields EVERYWHERE. I want to move somewhere prettier. I honestly want to move to a different country..however I know that would never be an option because SO would NEVER agree to it. I want to at least visit like Austria or something lol. Anyway..tell me about where you live and why you love it!

NY is awesome for the variety. City, middle of the mountains-- it's great having a bunch of different "types" of places nearby.

It is really smurfin' expensive, and the upstate part has way too much snow.

I love it, but I would love it waaaaaay more if it wasn't so hard to afford.

Yeah I have been to New York before! It was fun, but exhausting   ...and when we got in a taxi I thought for sure we were going to die.

I know you said if I love it.
But I smurfing hate it. It is SO Flat here. No hills so you can see for smurfing miles. Wind chill of -80 sometimes. Smurfing sucks. Small town in MN just 30 minutes from ND.

Central Kentucky and I absolutely LOVE it!
I would eventually like to move to Eastern Kentucky or West Virginia because I love being in the mountains, but right here is perfect for now. The landscape is beautiful and the area is very rich in history. I live in a college city, so there's a lot of diversity and very curious cultural blend. You can literally walk a block and go from a swanky neighborhood to one with a more down home, quiet and southern feel. The cost of living here is cheap as hell (but my view of cheap may be slightly screwed, I'm from Southwest Florida where a cheap apartment is around $1000 a month and a gallon of milk is double what it is here in KY) and the public transportation system is great and goes everywhere. I remember reading somewhere recently that my city was one of the top 25 places to live or something to that effect.

Ugh I'm sorry! That would be horrible   ...I would move without any questions..whether SO liked it or not! LOL

Yeah the murders would be terrifying! We obviously have had that around here before, but not in our actual town..other small towns close to here though. And I totally can relate with the whole drama thing ha

Sounds a lot like Wyoming. My husband says similar things about it.

Well that is cool! I don't think SO would ever agree to living anywhere south of here though   ..he likes winter..which I happen to hate haha. I have been through Kentucky before and it was pretty..I think Tennessee was absolutely gorgeous too!

I live in Edmonton (Alberta, Canada) and while its not my favourite place its grown on me the last year or so. The area of the city I live in is walking distance to everything I need (grocery store, pharmacy, restaurants, doctors, chiropractor, dentist, Starbucks...etc) my job at west Edmonton mall was a 20 minute (at most 30mins) bus ride away. In the summer time everything here is green and lush, in the wintertime it looks like a Christmas movie (while I could do without the -46 temps). The prices for things here kind of suck. Our health care system is phenomenal (as far as I'm concerned) my wait times have never been substantial in a hospital or doctors office, and I'm really glad for the whole being Canadian because having to pay for that stuff would really put me off going ever. That and the friends I've made here in the past 4.5 years since I graduated high school are some of the best I've ever had. We also have the smallest % in tax in Canada and no tax on necessary grocery items or gas.

I'm a little disappointed with the winters here myself. This is actually my first, and they're saying we're above average for snowfall this season. Above average at 4 inches...

I want more snow, lol. Other than being landlocked, that's my only complaint. DH and I are like little kids on Christmas Eve waiting for Santa whenever the meteorologist predicts snow

That is really awesome. I have always been jealous of the health system there lol. I could probably get SO to agree to move there, but only one problem. I HATE winter and everything about being cold. I get cold very easily. I have bad blood circulation lol. SO would love it though I'm sure!

NYC is exhausting!

But... especially in the summer.... go up to the Adirondacks. You want calm, peace, privacy, and beauty... man. It's gorgeous up there! I love Lake Placid/Saranac Lake area. I would love to live there if it wasn't for the snow.

Lol! Yeah I don't like winter very much. I don't mind one big snowfall. After that I'm completely over it. Winter depresses me majorly...always so gloomy and cloudy.
