Separation anxiety- vent

posted 3rd Jan
*I* am having separation anxiety lately. I have no idea why. My almost 23 month old is all over the place. Recently learned how to climb out of her pack and play and crib like a pro. We took down one of the sides of her crib in her room so she can get back in if she climbs out at night or during naptime.

It just feels like now that she's really mobile, there's a whole world of danger and that makes me so nervous. Especially that we're not home during the day with her. My older daughter watches her, and I am constantly texting her and asking how she's doing, and making sure she's keeping everything safe.

Its just really bad today. I can feel the tears stinging. I want to be home with her and playing and cuddling and not stuck here. I feel like I'm missing out on her life... and when I get home, it's my homework, and dinner, and cleaning, and I feel like I'm so tired and I dont give her enough attention.

Sorry for the vent. I'm so all over the place.

I know exactly how you feel... I'm dealing with that too. My toddler is 22 months old and is into EVERYTHING so he drives me crazy when he's here but I miss him the second he's gone lol. I think my issues are with his newfound independence. He doesn't like to cuddle with me much anymore.   Can you put off some of the housework to spend some time with her tonight or this weekend?

So glad it's not just me! I have an issue with that too! I have issues with putting off cleaning. I feel like I'm not a good mother if my house is "lived in" everything has to be put in its place before bed, etc. I hate that I'm that way, because I KNOW its not true. No house can be immaculate all the time (at least for people with small children), especially ones who work, do school as well, etc. I know I need to let go of some of that and focus on my little one, because the time I spend freaking out about cleaning, I am losing out on moments in her life

I completely, and 100% understand.

I really wish there was a little more balance between my work/family life so I didn't feel like I wasn't getting enough time with DD.

I actually had to talk to a therapist about that a few weeks ago, lol. I have really high expectations for myself when it comes to keeping the house clean, getting dinner prepared, etc. and it was making me miserable because if the house wasn't perfect, I was a mess. But I had to realize that my expectations were unrealistic and kinda let that go a little bit. Now I clean the bathroom less often and I use clorox wipes to keep it looking better until I do a thorough cleaning... little stuff like that. And spending more time with my LO has made me happier.   So yeah I know exactly what you're talking about and I only have one kid to worry about right now! Try to take it easy... you deserve it.
