suing after a tragedy?

I just recently heard that victims of the Colorado massacre are suing the movie Cinema and 1 family from the Newtown massacre are suing the school district for not protecting their loved ones more. Not to sound harsh but why? No one knew gunmen were going to run in and kill innocent people. It seems kind of greedy to me imo. The shooter doesn't have money so the next target is the one with the most money. Money wont make anything easier, you will just be wiping your tears with hundred dollar bills. My question is do you think its logical or rifht?

That's how some people grieve. They can't make sense of it unless someone pays, literally.

I think it is insanely wrong and people are just freaking sue happy in this country.

They are grieving and want to punish someone since they can not punish the shooters themselves. I can understand why the victims do it, but I don't think it's logical, they probably aren't thinking very clearly about it.

Its wrong. I know that from the CT shooting the ones sueing didn't lose their child I think they should be greatful and move on.

I get wanting someone to pay but really a school? That's like say my cousin died in a dd car accident and I camt get the driver so I'm going to sue nissan or bud weiser since the guy was driving a Nissan and drinking bud and they didn't protect me.

Probably survivors guilt. That can take a huge toll on a person emotionally.

They aren't thinking logically, they are thinking with raw emotions only.

Yeh I hate seeing stuff like this. It's depressing for the family to see them grasping at those straws, and it doesn't seem right that the people not actually to blame for the tragedy having to fight to prove that  

I have never had a tragedy happen to me like what these people experience. But I don't get the suing thing. Money isn't going to make the situation change. You want things changed start campaigning for better laws or try to make a different in the lives of others. Money is not going to bring back your love ones or you sanity.

As for the CT shooting, I don't think it was right to blame the school. Teachers and staff died trying to protect those children. Sadly they weren't able to protect everyone but without them more children would have lost their lives. They should be grateful for the dedicated teachers and staff that gave their lives standing up for what is right.

i don't agree with it, and i deal with frivolous lawsuits on a daily basis as part of my job.

on the flip side, when my dh died due to a common prescription med, i'd be lying if i said that filing a lawsuit against his doc and the drug company didn't cross my mind.
