re: Swearing at children

I've never sweared at my child, ever. But, I am very guilty of swearing around him. I was doing really good until I got frustrated on our family trip while trying to put on his new shoes and I couldn't get them on. I walked away and told my husband "I can't do that smurfing smurf". DH put on DS's shoes, buckled him in the car and when we were pulling away from the hotel DS said "smurfing smurf!".

Clearly I have a horrible mouth that I need to work on, but I've never called my son anything or told him to go pick up his smurfing room.

My parents have never watched their mouths around me. My dad has a horrible potty mouth. Both of my parents have sworn at me many times. I turned out just fine. It didn't smurf with my head at all. It's just a word, I don't see what the huge deal is.

My mom swears at us.   Little smurfs, dumb asses, lol.

Nope. Not at, and not around.

I don't really swear aloud at all. Just occasionally on the internet.

And yeah, I'm super-judgy when I hear people swearing left and right around or especially at their kids. It's beyond trashy.

I swear around them and about them sometimes (I get frustrated if they are not cleaning up and may pull the "damn it guys just clean up" after asking them several times). I have referred to them as pains in my ass before too. But it is emotionally hurtful to call someone names like bitch, the C word (one word I won't say, the N word is the only other one), etc.

I constantly swear, literally all day. Step on something I swear. Drop something I swear etc.....

My kids hear it, Meh. Its only words. But I'm against most forms of censorship anyways. Lol

Why are some better than others? If they are just words?

Because the C word and the N word are much more than just another word to me. I hate even the sound of them. And I have no problem pointing out when an older teenager or adult is being a bitch.
