No its a diminutive. It would be like your full name is Alex and not Alexander.

It is a very handsome name and wonderful to see it used on males. I have a relative who goes by Sasha around family but to his friends he goes by Ace. Americans made fun of him for having a "girls" name.

Aw that makes me sad.   I want a baby Shannon or Madison.

But Shannon works! Shannon is wonderful. I don't see why a boy would get tormented over Shannon now days. I see Shannon and I don't see any difference from a traditional males name like Shaun/Sean. Madison though. its just too popular for girls right now. The son trend on girls is horrendous.
