Am I worrying too much?

posted 3rd Jan
Ok so I noticed on the newsletter the school prints on the back of the menu it says the parents are no longer allowed in the school at all, which includes morning drop offs. My youngest in school is in kindergarten, the K class rooms are a long way from the front door and they don't have a line up near the front door. So if I was to just drop him off, if he didn't go to his class he could just wander wherever and possibly even back out the door to god knows where. I do not like this. If there were a line up near the door with a teacher to lead them to their rooms I would be fine with it, but the thought of the possibilities worries me. I always take him to his class so his teacher knows he's there and he has supervision. Today when I took him I walked right in past the principal and didn't even stop to find out if they were enforcing this or not. I know I will eventually have an issue with them stopping me. Am I just worrying too much? or would it bother you that your 5yo could be either lost in the school or even wander outside without a teacher knowing?

Also this was sent home before the shooting in CT, so it's not their response to that. I know they are trying to protect the kids, but I also think they are not considering what can happen when a 5yo is just left off at the door.

I would do the same. If anything I would of stopped and discussed it with the principal right then and there. Even having wandering 6 or 7 year holds is a horrid idea, yet alone wandering kindergarteners. No way would I let my son walk himself to class.

The principal is (for lack of a better word) a bitch, and I am not a morning person at all, especially when I don't get enough sleep and I didn't get much last night so I figured it might be best to not have the discussion today.

I had issues with her before the break when I called DS in to stay home because there was talk of a shooting and/or bombing going to happen and the police were involved and investigating and she acted like I was wrong for worrying about his saftey.

DH is saying that if this is the way they are going to be we might end up either putting him in private school or homeschooling. Which I have considered both before he even started school.

My dd is 4 and in kindergarten, and she gets dropped off at the door and goes in (when we have missed the bus) parents are not allowed to go in the morning.

But when she takes the bus to school, they get dropped off and play in the school yard for 15-30 min before its time to go to class. When the bell rings its up to the child to get themselves to class on time, bag and coats put where they go, shoes changed and in class where the teacher waits.

I have not long changed my kids school due to a move. Their new school insists on dropping off at gate instead of coming onto premises. My son is 6 and my Daughter is 8. I have to say, it scared the hell out of me. The first 2 weeks i was a nervous wreck, expecting a phone call within an hr of dropping them off to say there werent there. But now i love it! The kids have gained tons of confidence which they were lacking and they love playing with their friends in the morning. Apparently i'm too embarrassing to walk them to the gate now lol.
But if it rly does make you feel uncomfortable and she is not an approachable person, put it in a letter?
