Chicken pox vax. to get or not to get...

posted 3rd Jan
That is the question! Now, I need an answer

I don't really know too much about it besides the fact a lot of people refuse it and it doesn't prevent CP, so is there a point to it? DS is almost 17 months and I'm not entirely sure when its offered but, I'm assuming soon.

I was hoping for a little information on it, maybe personal experiences...is it required for school? Do they usually bring it up as an elective vax kind of like a flu shot or is it lumped in with 'normal' vaxs where they'll just assume he'll get it?

DS has a pedi appt today for a few shots he missed at 15 months and I'm just wondering if he'll get that today.

They just assumed my kids would get it, but they also assumed they'd get the flu shot (I had to tell the nurse, the doctor, and then the nurse again when they STILL brought those two shots.)

It is required here by schools. There was an outbreak of pox here not long ago. DD got her shot when she turned 3. I had her get it mostly because I never had the chicken pox.

We didn't do it because I wasn't sure if I wanted to. If you're not sure don't. You can always get it later If u choose. I worked out perfect for us. When I chose not to I said I would re-evaluate how I felt when kindegten got closer. It is a required one but MI is easy we just sign a waiver no dr involved like some states. But idk what your state does. But anyway, she ended up getting them in prek. So I didn't have to worry about it. It was nice. They weren't horrible. She was home about 5 days. Te itchiness was uncomfortable as they started to heal. but we did oatmeal bats and calamine lotions constantly.

We can get her a blood test to prove immunity so we don't have to sign te waiver it I don't feel that's necessary since its so easy here to waive it.

My son got the shot and got a hybrid type of chicken pox that were bigger then half dollars!!! I don't know if it was a side effect of the shot or just the way his body reacted to the virus.

Those are the two we dont do too. I always tell them at vax time. And if SO takes her I Make sure to tell him 100x before DO NOT GET FLU OR CHIX POX

One time I told him NO VAX this time. Because I don't like to vax in the winter. And he let them give her one. Ecause they convinced him she missed it and needed it right then. I freaked out because she had it in WA already. But oter states donnshow up on the MI registry. I was livid.

If your interested there's a book called the vaccine book by Robert sears. It's been a life saver to us. We chose no pox vaccine and no flu shot. And we delayed everything else til kindergarten.

I don't understand what the big deal in getting it is. I'm not trying to start drama I legitimately don't know lol My 12 month old got his shots today and these are the ones he got:
ACTHIB
MMR
Varivax (didn't know till just now, the chicken pox vaccine. They did not tell me that it was that vaccine!)
Prevnar
HepA

I just find it pointless. It's newer so we don't know the long term effects. And you can still get chicken pox with it.

Its not the end of the world. But that's just my opinion. Lots of people still get it for their kids. No worries.

sorry. Drs are so pushy. They just do what they want without even giving unbiased info on them.
