if your lo had a dairy, nut or egg allergy

posted 3rd Jan
Or any allergy for that matter. What were they allergic too and what were their reactions? What age did they try the food and how do you introduce new foods.?

I think my lo has a dairy or lactose allergy bc her butt is red immediately after she poops.

I haven't tried eggs, nuts or citrus yet. She will be 12 months on Saturday.

he's allergic to milk but you knew that, lol.
when he was very little and on formula, he just had eczema that i think was caused from it, a red butt, constipation, and was cranky. We originally switched him to nutramigen bc of constipation but i suspected a milk allergy.
Then, at 6 months, I walked in on MIL giving him ice cream and told her to stop. He then got little red dots all on his chin and around his lips...and got really fussy. The red dots went away pretty quickly.
A month or so later, I gave him hawaiian delight baby food without realizing it had whey in it, same dots around the mouth.
I also gave him egg YOLKS only and he got red splotches ALL over his face, he threw them up, and had diarrhea.
Got him a scratch test at the allergist and was positive for milk and eggs.
He also had a reaction to a hazelwood and amber teething necklace. That was pretty bad....hives all over his chest and abdomen.

Since she's almost 12 months and isn't having hives or swelling or anaphylaxis, i would suspect more of a lactose intolerance than an allergy but I don't know for sure.

oh but then again, you said her butt is red everytime she poops?
my son does that EVERYtime he is teething, even though he is dairy free. Sometimes I won't even know he is teething until that happens.

Hmm ok. I do suspect teething. No reactions to amber. I switched from.alimentum to a more dairy formula. The red only started then. I've had her on hemp and coconut the past week.bc she is sick and no redness. Its something in that formula. But she has had little bits of dairy but I have noticed dots but maybe from drool. I want to do almond milk. I'm.not sure what to look for when I start introducing new foods like eggs or citrus or full on dairy. Thanks

well if she's has 'little bits' of dairy and you noticed dots that's exactly what it sounds like to me. especially since you went from alimentum to a dairy formula and her butt got red.
the dots when he eats dairy aren't super bad like full on hives with the eggs. they do kind of look like they could be from drool but go away within an hour. you should try to get an epipen to carry just in case she were to ever have an anaphylactic reaction.
with eggs, his symptoms were so much worse.
he's had citrus with no problems and some cranberry sauce that had walnuts in it. so i dont think he's allergic to nuts but am still cautious because his first cousin is.
if you've been doing hemp and coconut milk, i'd just stick with that since she's almost one. and just introduce almond later.

Madilynn has allergies to tree nuts, peanuts, and egg.

We have no family history of ANY allergies, so we were real surprised that she has all these issues.

With peanuts, we found out when she was a year old and I gave her a PB&J sandwich. She broke out in hives immediately.

So we went to get the RAST done and they said she was allergic to peanuts, eggs, wheat, soy and milk. Then the pedi sent us to get the scratch test done and found out she's allergic to peanuts, eggs, and certain types of tree nuts (like brazilian nuts). So I don't know what her reaction for tree nuts is since we never gave her anything that has tree nuts in it. And with eggs..she has no reaction, which is kinda weird, but she keeps scoring high for it. So we give her foods that has eggs in it (like waffles and she's fine), but not straight up eggs.

Oh yeah, WHOLE egg was introduced to her at 7 months...NOT by me. I flipped out when I found out. I don't know if that linked to her allergies or not.

Fortunately, most kids outgrow egg allergies...unfortunately, most kids don't outgrow peanut allergy.

Thanks for sharing. So if I suspect allergies I should ask for a rast and scratch test?

For us, I went to the pedi because she had a reaction to peanuts and they gave us the RAST. But because it came back positive, they ordered a skin test. A RAST has a chance of false positives.
As far as EPI goes, we have one because she has a peanut allergy. Her other allergy (like egg) doesn't warrant one because it's not noticeable.. even though she scored high on it on both tests.

This site really helped us and it has GREAT information on ingredients that has milk or eggs or whatever. It's a great site.
