Multiple sets of twins D&D

posted 2nd Jan
I just remembered this, we were all out to dinner last week, and we started talking to the table next to us, they had twin babies, and the father ended up telling us they had 2 other sets of twins at home. Well after they left, DH and I argued (not seriously) about them having 3 sets of twins, and he thinks its possible without fertility drugs and/or IVF, and while I think its possible, I think its highly unlikely, so what are your thoughts on it?

I never would have asked the people, because well its none of my business, so I just wanted to see what other people thought of it.

I've never seen any myself because the people I know stopped having children after their second set. But they had a singleton, then two sets of twins after. Idk what would Have happened had they ttc again.

I've always heard that after you've had a set of multiples, it's more likely to have another set (than someone who has only singletons). However, I think 3 sets of twins for one family (without IVF, etc) is highly unlikely.

My cousin and his wife have a set of momo twins. Her chances of having ANOTHER set of identical twins is very likely. It's a genetic thing, on her end.

I did ask, all 3 sets are fraternal, well it was obvious with the babies, since one was a boy and one was a girl

My neighbors have 2 sets of twins and they didn't use anything. Now 3 is a lot but I'm sure it's possible. And the other girl is right, once you have a set you have a higher chance of having multiples again.

It is a genetic thing for the most part, if you have the gene to hyperovulate then yes there is a chance you could have more twins in the future.

Even if they are identical, if you have one set the chances are more so than someone than has not had identical twins.

I knew a couple in the NICU my youngest daughter was in, and they had identical triplet girls. 2 of the girls went home and the 3rd one had to stay another month, and the mother and father would switch off who would come in the NICU, and every time the mother was there, within 15 minutes of her getting there, the father would call freaking. It came down to it, that if the phone rang, the receptionist would yell for the mother, and say this is probably for you, lol

My great grandmother had 4 sets of twins all natural. She didn't use ivf or anything like that. Her doctor (back then) called her a miracle mother. Since her there is 2 sets in every generation. I think it's crazy but so cool. We never found out why she had so many.

My cousin has been pregnant with twins twice but each time lost a twin, the first time at 20 weeks and the second at 10 weeks. When she ovulates she often has two eggs instead of one. It seems to be fairly common in my family, I have a lot of twin aunts/uncles/cousins, lol. There was a girl on here ages ago who was a twin and had younger twin siblings. Someone already mentioned the mom with 2 sets of twins. It's not super common but not as unlikely as you would think. If you normally release 2 eggs at ovulation the chances of both being fertilized aren't that far fetched.
