Upgrading with Verizon

I have Verizon and I'm already grandfathered in with unlimited data. I've heard that if you upgrade your phone though, you lose the unlimited data regardless. I have an upgrade next month and really want a new phone. Has anyone upgraded and lost their unlimited data? If so, what plan did you end up getting? I'm on my phone ALL the time. I saw you can get 2gb for $30/month, but I have no idea what mb and kb and all that nonsense is

No you dont loose your unlimited data. DH and I both have unlimited and I upgraded us to iPhone5's a few months ago (whenever they came out) You would only loose your unlimited if you make any plan changes.

I got to keep mine but that was two years ago. I am switching to U.S. Cellular because they have better rates.

Oh thank god. I want the iPhone 5 but if I lost my unlimited data it wouldn't even be worth it

I am grandfathered in too.

BUT they said if you change from 3G to 4G then you lose unlimited data since its different.
Plus now they charge you 30 dollars to upgrade even it its a "free" phone. I do not like this. Bleh.

My dad couldn't even get a smart phone because it would change the contract and make my brother lose his unlimited data. Plus, he's too cheap for one anyhow.

I have the 2 GB of data. It's not bad, but most of the time I am running on wifi.

That $30 charge has been in effect for a long time now.

I don't get expensive phones because I tend to break them or crack them. I am too clumsy for a Iphone.

Last week my friend upgraded from a Droid Razr Max to the Galaxy Note, and she lost her unlimited data. Now she only gets 2 GB a month. If you pay full price for the phone you keep your unlimited data though, but if you renew your contract you lose it.

i have an iphone, bought bumpers on amazon for like $2 and never had a problem. well, actually.. the other day i dropped it in the snow in the parking lot and it stopped making text message and keyboard noises, and when someone called i couldn't hear them but they could hear me. i went in, and he checked it super quick and i got a new one for free... but it started working fully the next day, and my friend had the same thing happen to her.

SO.. i bought him a new phone for his birthdya last year and cracked the screen up a week later. he still hasn't replaced it. i bought him a case so it doesn't get worse, but yeah. he doesn't want to take it in cause it would probably be $100 deductible, but he has insurance so idk..

Your dad upgrading to a phone with a data plan would not affect your brothers line. Someone lied. I carry 4 lines on my account so we can upgrade yearly. The two BS lines have crappy flip phones on them no data plan. When I got my iPhone5 I had to activate it to the BS line first then have them remove the data plan. Never lost my unlimited because MY contract didnt change. Each line is their own contract.

My husband was told that the next time he upgrades, he will lose his unlimited data package. Verizon is getting rid of the grandfathered plans, it was announced last summer.

IDK. that's what he was told. Regardless, he doesn't want to pay the extra fee every month. It's just that there aren't many basic phones to choose from.

If they take away unlimited data for grandfathered plans I will leave Verizon. That is the only reason we have stayed.

Our bill is extremely high anyhow. I know all cell phones are now but its one of our bigger bills.
