How do you count calories...

posted 2nd Jan
In food you make yourself? Like, tomorrow for dinner DH wants me to make chicken pot pie. I'm making it with low fat broth and soup and without the shell. But how would I count calories in that? Im so lost at all this.

I just add up the total of everything I put in something and if I eat like an eighth i divide it by 8 or whatever.

Are you going off of a recipe or are you just making it as you go? If using a recipe, look for ones that give you the calorie amount per serving. If making as you go, I think you have to add everything up manually...not sure. I never went that route. I always used Eatingwell.com for my recipes

I use my fitness pal but I use like two cans of cream of chicken, a can of chicken broth, an onion, veggies and chicken breast.

there;'s a place on MFP to put in recipes... how much of everything...then it divides it out so you know how many calories in a serving. You can even save it so if you make it again, it's already there.
