My family needs to start eating healthier

posted 2nd Jan
But I don't know how... does that sound stupid?

Like I don't even know where to begin.
We eat A LOT of pasta and hamburger(I'm so tired of both)
I'm a super picky eater. I don't eat any peppers, onions, tomatoes, fish. Among a million other things.

Where do I start? What do I cut out? What do I put in?

I replaced all our noodles with wheat noodles. After awhile no one can tell. I switched dh from hamburger to ground turkey. All white bread to wheat. I changed one thing at a time so he wasn't bombarded

Try taking little steps like switching to 100% whole wheat pasta and using lean ground beef or turkey in place of the fatter versions.

The first step is to stop being picky.
After that I would download some recipe apps. They've helped me add variety to my family meals.

I agree, most things are acquired tastes. If you grew up eating only bad foods you likely enjoy eating those as an adult because it is what is comfortable to you. T

Its not like you can just stop being picky. I have tried "new" foods and most of them make me gag. If I dont like the smell I can't eat it.

I just can't stop thinking tomatoes, onions ect are the most disgusting things on this planet.
The smell of onions makes me want to vomit.

I try to avoid boxed meals as much as possible.

Such as the homestyle bakes, pasta roni's , and hamburger helpers.

Though I do cheat and buy the frozen microwaveable vegetables, I try to buy lean meat.

Coconut oil is a wonderful ingredient to have in the kitchen too. It's natural and has so many benefits to it.

I tried wheat noodles and SO hated them.
But I'll try them again.
And I've been meaning to try ground turkey. So when I go to the store tomorrow that's what I'll get instead of ground beef.

I used to hate veggies. Wouldn't touch them but then I learned to cook with them. If you can learn to cook with them chances are you will never taste them

It took me a loong time to eat onions.

I didn't really start not minding them until recently when I started making salsa.

Because of that, I don't mind onions, jalapenos or Serrano peppers.

Were eating healthier as well. Mostly me tho. I've started counting calories. So I can still make almost the same things for keith and K but I'm using lighter things and measuring out my portions. Like tonight for dinner were having chicken pot pie. I'm making it without the crust, so just the filling. Which keith doesn't like the crust anyways so its not a big deal for him. Then I substituted the cream of chicken for fat free. And fat free broth. We also are buying whole wheat, I got some special k cereal that is actually really good and some ice creams that are only 70 calories a bar and keith even likes them. I also have cut out all soda. The only thing I am drinking is water except with milk in my cereal. I talked to a dietatition and he told me when I'm feeling hungry to chug a glass of water. If im still hungry after that then I was really hungry. If not then I was just thirsty. He said sometimes our brains can't tell if were really hungry out thirsty. Tomorrow will be one week that I have been counting calories and I'm going to weigh myself to see if there was a difference.
