Birth Control While EBF.

posted 2nd Jan
Which BC is best to choose, my OB & I talked about my options today. I go back in 3 weeks to decide for sure on what I want. I do not want the depo. I have heard good & bad things about the IUD. Opinions please, TIA!

For me it was trial and error. I had mirena after my first and I hated it. I was like a fat bi-polar crazy person. Gained 60lbs in less than a year not ideal when getting married.
I did Depo after my second and my hair started falling out then I went to the mini pill and it got the job done until I was done nursing.

I was think about getting the mini pill. Is there anything I should know about it? We didn't really get to talk about any side effects or anything because his office was packed with people today. So we will do that next time. I was on depo before & I bled for nearly 4 months straight. So I want something that isn't going to mess up my cycle or anything.

If you are EBF you might not even have a cycle. I personally didnt have any side effects I was on the Nora-B.

After I had my son, I had the paragard inserted (I was also EBF). I LOVED it. NO hormones, my periods were regular, it didn't interfere with ANY day-to-day activities. I had it in for almost 4 years and I had it removed on October 30, 2012 when my hubby and I decided to start trying for #2 and I got pregnant on the first try! I would suggest the Paragard to EVERYONE! You don't have to worry about taking it on time (like the mini-pill). It's highly effective and you don't even know it's there!

I take the mini pill and I ebf. I haven't had any issues with it. I started my period before I started taking the pills and the only thing is that my period came at a weird time once so now it comes in the middle of my pack and throws me off but I think that was from the nursing not the pills.

Oh wow, I didn't know that. I don't mind not having one. I just don't want one all the time, lol. That was the most awful 4 months. I think I am going to do more research on it. But that is what I am leaning towards.

It's honestly trial and error, I was on pretty much every birth control and hated it to the point where I just didn't use it anymore. I really wanted Mirena and my insurance wouldn't cover it ( that was 7 years ago) so I just said smurf it and what ever happened, happened. Well we tried for #2 in 2011 and had her in 2012 and this time around my insurance covered Mirena and I absolutely love Mirena. Everyone is different and everyone's body will respond differently so you kind of have to see where you personally fall with it.

I will also do research on this because knowing me, I will forget to take the pill at some point. Thank you!

Haha! Yes - research is key! I did the same thing! I tried the mini-pill for awhile as well, but it wasn't for me. I needed something that required less responsibility! HAHAHA. Good luck!

im breast feeding & just got on the mini pill 3 days ago when i went for my c-section check-up so it would already be affective when i get the OKAY at my 6 weeks check-up to be active (if i choose). & they told me its not as affective as every other one bc of no hormones in it so you have to be sure to take it at the SAME TIME EVERYDAY so i set an alarm on my phone to remind me. but my lactation nurse told me its the best b.c. for breast feeding mothers!
