Couple of questions :)

posted 2nd Jan
Just want to know when you ladies took away the bottle? How old was your child? How did you do it? Any advice?

Also, when did you start to teach them how to eat with a spoon/fork?

Thanks in advance!

The bottle was gone a day after his 1st birthday.
And we started a spoon and fork as soon as he started solids. He likes to feed himself!

With my oldest I took the bottle away way to late around 21 months. She got a fork and spoon around 12 months.

With my second we will be getting rid of the bottles as soon as she over the flu and pneumonia (she will be 1 on the 26th) She has had a fork and spoon since 6 months to explore with and is really starting to get the hang of the fork. She can feed herself with it but still needs help with the stabbing of food. I do hand over hand so she learns.

well, I took away the boob at 2.5 lol

both my boys have started on utensils at around 10 months though.. I let them practice when they showed interest(grabbing).. my oldest kinda forgot how to use a utensil because he liked finger foods and is a super picky eater.. my youngest is a pro already at 11 months. I think it depends on your kid..

i started on sippy cups before she was a year old, and bottles were just out. no big deal or big production with her, so it was cool. spoon/fork?... i forget when she started using them. i assume by 2 or 3 she did, but i forget. damn, i should write this stuff down!

I got rid of the bottle at 9-10mo I just threw them all away so I wouldnt be able to give in and give it to her it wasnt easy and it was extremely exhausting but she got over it and I caught up on my sleep.

DS got a spoon around 10 months but he didn't really start using it (or a fork) well until he was a little over a year.

I was very bad about taking the bottle away. I let him have a bottle at night until he was like 20 months. He wouldn't drink milk out of a sippy and I wanted to make sure he was getting enough calcium lol

I took Alyssa's bottle away the day after she turned 1.

To make it easier, I threw them away so I couldn't give in. I plan on doing the same thing to Francis. He will be 1 on the 7th of this month.

I can't remember when she started feeding herself with silverware to be honest.

I just know we let her feed herself the finger foods, and when it came to stuff like mashed potatoes, we would feed it to her.

My daughter was off the bottle a little late I took her off around 15 months but she got sick the hospital gave it back to her so she had it untill about 19 months. She started using fork and spoon around a year when we tried to start solids.

Did you stop the night time feedings then? My sons seems like he needs to have a bottle of milk before he goes to bed and if we wakes up in the middle of the night he needs one to get back to sleep. What can I do there? Give him a sippy instead?

Use a sippy if they want it bad enough they will take the sippy like I said I lost alot of sleep in the process.. but ultimately it lessened the times she woke up at night and she drank less milk aswell I fed her right before bed time something that was really filling so she wouldnt want milk instead.

I got rid of the bottle when my daughter was 1. She also liked to have a bottle at bedtime when going to sleep so I gave her a sippy cup. She is now 7 years old and she turned out fine lol.

Bottle was gone by 9 months with both my kids and I give them utensils as soon as we start solids. My son was feeding himself great around 1, my daughter is 12 months and still doesn't have the hang of it.

My daughter was also a night time drinker and I gave her milk in a sippy for the first week she was weaned and then took that away too.
