Transitioning to Kinder

posted 2nd Jan
Cora will be starting kindergarten in the fall of this year. EEK!

I worry about the transition from being home with me all day to being in school all day

They don't have the option for a half day program. Kinder is a FULL school day

Cora has never been in daycare or anything like that

She does well with being away from me. Almost no seperation anxiety. She sleeps at other peoples houses and loves going to new places.

She does have issues with changes to her routine but I guess school will be her new routine

Is there anything you did to prep your kid before school started? What was it? And when did you start?

Is she good with raising her hand to talk, standing in line, etc?

The biggest thing that helped my son was visiting his classroom and meeting his teacher ahead of time.

Also, starting the morning routine with school wake up time during the summer.

mine's been in daycare/prek, but we do plan on meeting the teacher, going to open house and getting our morning routine downpat before school starts.

My daughter went to daycare but as we prepared for school I let her get involved. She got to pick out her school supplies and clothes and it seemed to make her feel special. You may want to take a couple days a week that you allow her to go somewhere without you just so she gets use to the idea. Sounds like she don't mind being away from you which is a really good thing. My daughter was and still is very shy and the first few days of school are a struggle. Either way I'm sure she will be fine and so will you

There's a glitch in the system right now, so there are a bunch of accounts that are doing what yours is doing. Hang in there, hopefully it will get fixed soon!!

about as good as the average 4 year old. She is very focused, though she doesn't change from activity to activity well.

For the first week or so, the teachers (for the most part) are pretty understanding and will work with the child.

I would talk a lot about it. Maybe look online and see if there are pictures of the school she will be attending. Go before the first day and meet the teacher. They should have an orientation and that might help her (and your fears).

:hugs:

She is so excited about it

She tells me all the time that she'll finally be big enough to ride the bus without me and how I can't stay home cause I already know everything
