I don't see the big deal. You can still get your own policy on him.

You worry about you, and they'll worry about them.

Maybe they feel you wouldn't be able to pay funeral costs, maybe they will need time off work to grieve.

My husbands ex wife took a policy out on him. We only found out cause they sent him a notice one day!! We were like WTF?? Laws need to be in place. I think taking a policy out on anyone without their knowledge is absurd!

not at all. He may have it to make sure his funeral expenses are covered, or that his kids are taken care of if soemting happens to him.

Or employer - there are dead peasant policies....and some are just sickeningly large.
