Besides, being found not guilty by reason of insanity is very uncommon. less than 1% of all court cases involve that plea, and out of that 1%, there's only a 26% success rate, and out of the successful pleas, 90% of the defendants were previously diagnosed with a mental illness.

Eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind, IMO.

Well, her husband also KNEW she had severe PPD and left her alone with the children.. Her doctor told her NOT to have any more babies because having one more "would be the straw that would break the camels back" and her husband pushed her.
I'm not saying he should have faced charges necessarily, but that was pretty damn negligent.

I also want to add that if it was a serial killer like Ted Bundy, then no, I don't think they should be ever allowed out in society again. But I think he got the easy way out.

Good stats, thank you.

It's incredibly difficult to try, and even if you do plead NGBRI you're either going to jail, or a mental institution (probably for longer than you would have been in jail).

I'd rather be in prison than a mental institution.

It's also a matter of "you're here until you're cured".... which for most people that are found not guilty by reason of insanity is almost never. They usually spend more in the mental facility than they would in prison. It's not like a prison sentence that has a time limit on it.

Quoting Devil's Advocate:" But she also was not institutionalized where she could get the help she deserved. She was imprisoned. "

Very true...she got off rather easy for her crimes but she is the one who lives with it today. Its just a touchy subject for alot of people because there is alot of mental illness in the world today. If it can be shown without a doubt that they were completely out of their minds then maybe an institution but people do try an use that as an excuse today....if it were me and I did that I would want to be killed.

Exactly.
AND, not to mention, they can be beneficial to law enforcement.
Jeffery Dahmer? We studied him. We learned a lot from him.

Uh yeah!
That's crazy.
I'm strangely intrigued by him. I watched his biography. In a strange, sick way, he's very interesting. One of the few sick and depraved that understood he was sick and depraved and he knew he should have felt remorse, but didn't. I mean, he understood normal people felt remorse, but he didn't.
I just find it interesting.

Its tricky, I had ppp, I'm not saying everyone was like me, but help is very much accessible,
I feel like the families and or people around them should also be held accountable, my husband, mother, god mother all were around 24/7 they knew I wasn't ok, they didn't bother me too much but they also didn't leave me alone with the baby,
I dont feel bad for the mothers, thier baby/babies died for what???

Alot of times when people come out screaming insanity, and they have a history, its like who dropped the ball here... Not the dead baby/people...

Like I said I have a history and had a diagnosis at 8, for ocd, and it snowballed from there, if I had ever done anything to my children I believe I should be punished to the fullest...

They didn't give a a crap I was bat smurf crazy when I had drug charges because I was self medicating, DA wanted me to do at least 5 in jail, if I had killed some one its ok to get off because I had history??

I watched a movie based on his life/killing spree, and I think it was fascinating as him. Ted Bundy as well.
