MIL and car seat

I need to know how to talk to my MIL about DS's car seat. She doesn't even tighten the straps AT ALL. He doesn't go places with them very often, but I always put him in his seat when they leave and when they bring him back I can fit my entire hand under the straps and the clip is laying on his tummy and I freak out but I don't want to seem like a bitch at the same time. How do I nicely tell her she's not securely strapping him in?

Just be honest. Say I noticed the last few times you put DS in his seat the straps were really loose. Then show her. She should care about his safety and be happy to learn.

Next time she takes him somewhere show her how you strap him in and say "I noticed last time that his straps were loose. That's really not safe so do ou want to watch how I do it?" if she doesn't listen, she doesn't get to take him in the car anymore.

You know what its the same with my parents. Not that they dont tighten them up or use them properly.
But my now dd is going to be ERF till her seat limits, and I get ragged out about it all the time. Even for not using a snowsuit for her when its -40 out.

But in your case, if they dont comply, they cant have lo in the car with them. Maybe send or print out all the info on car seat safety. I am doing that cause my bd's mom seems to think, with my 4 yr old dd its ok to start using a booster already since she is a few pounds shy.

We havent argued about it yet, but I am making a booklet for them and giving it to them with all the safety info for both kids 11 months and 4 yrs old.

I guess I'm just overly afraid of confrontation. I don't like talking my MIL at all because I don't really know her that well and it's always kind of awkward, I guess. I'm afraid of offending her. She did just buy us a new car seat for him because he outgrew his infant one and we needed the infant one for DS#2 anyway, so maybe I'll use that as an excuse to show her how to properly put him in the seat since she's never used this one before... With anybody else I would have just said something, I don't know why she intimidates me.

We don't use the snow coat in the car either which makes my husband think he doesn't have to wear a coat at all -__- I guess it's silly to put the coat on him just to walk him 10 feet to the car but people bitch at us too if he goes outside without one. We just warm the car up first, put the coat on him to walk him to the car, then take it off as we put him in. My mom always tries to say things like "when you were a baby I carried you on my lap while I drove, why can't he wear a coat in his seat?" and that's when I start flooding her with youtube videos about car seat safety haha.
