I'm getting the kids a Brittany Spaniel puppy in 2014. They are typically very sweet but very high energy. They need exercise everyday.

We have a rottie/red heeler mix and a beagle and the beagle is awful with him and the rottie is great lol. Our beagle doesn't mean to be bad with him, she just has no regard for him at all and runs him over and has busted his lip.

Generally, a lot of people go with Labs when they are looking for a child friendly dog. We have a black lab and she's really good with the kids. We got her when she was about 7-8 weeks old. Our old neighbors has a little wiener and she looooved kids but she was a pretty needy dog. I had a pitbull growing up, best dog ever.

Our dog is a doberman/ australian shepherd mix and he is amazing with our child. My favorites for kids though are labs and german shepherds.

I want a hound of some sort or a great dane but I'm not sure how they are around kids ..

We had two labs and they were GREAT with my son. But mine were huge. Labs can get big so you have to take into consideration how big of a dog you are looking for. Boston terriers are also great family dogs and a bit on the smaller side.

We have a wiener dog right now and she is pretty awful with DD. We're looking into getting a Maltese or a corgi when we move to a bigger place in May.

i have a black lab before i had my two daughters and even when i brought them home has newborns its like my dog had mother instinct. She knew when to be close to the baby and how to play with them at every age. I completely recommend any lab

Labs tend to be high energy and kind of clumsy.
If high energy is good for you OP that's cool but I've seen a few of my friends labs plow right through their kids, not on purpose but they are just that way sometimes.
Any dog can be but when your read about labs you'll see they are hyper.
I lover wiener dogs (I've had 3) and I also love pits or rotties as a bigger bread (I've also had a few of them)
It just depends what your experience and life style is. If do some research about the different breeds and pick what fits your family z

They're great but I couldn't own a great dane. They have terrible health history.

My basset hound is terrible around my son. (especially with the arthritis in his hips) He likes to snap at him when my son even comes around him so they are kept separate. I bet a Beagle would be good for a kid.

I have 2 wieners and I HATE THEM. They are so annoying and are jealous of DS .. One tried to bite him.

High energy and clumsy. Yup, that's Star   She runs into smurf all the time.

From what I was told most of them have heart problems because of their size.
