Nurse/Doctor mommas...

Is it possible to have a false positive Flu type A test? The doctor told me that my son had the flu, but he only had a fever for a day and a half. He woke up Sunday with a very high fever, we went to the doctor and she told me he had the flu. But got while we were there the power went out and I'm not sure if she just told me he had the flu to get us out of there or what. She had already flat out told me that she hoped the test came back positive. I sent him to his dad's house Monday so I could go to work and he only a small dose of tylenol at 11:30 monday morning and when I got him at 6:30 he didn't have a fever and he didn't have one all day yesterday either. So I sent him to school b/c he was perfectly fine. I'm starting to wonder if he even really had the flu or just a 24 hour virus or something.

was it one of those rapid flu tests? If so, it's absolutely possible......it's actually kinda common to get a false positive

I'm glad your son seems to be getting better from whatever was making him sick! My kids all had some kind of virus a couple weeks ago. It started out as a high fever and lethargy and lasted about 48 hours. My younger son spiked another fever after about 3 days of being symptom free but then was fine after 24 hours and no symptoms ever returned after that. I have no idea what it was.

It was one of the rapid flu tests. She said it would take 20 minutes and came back 15 minutes later. I'm hoping that all his sickness is gone. He certainly was acting his normal self all day yesterday.
