Swaddling.

posted 1st Jan
Hi, I have a 10month old who wont sleep unless he is wrapped/ swaddled. Will he grow out of this? Can I do anything to speed up the process?

DS doesn't have this problem.. he doesn't like being swaddled anymore... hasn't since he was a few weeks old... but have you tried using the swaddler/ wearable blankets... we have some that you can swaddle at first and then just use them as wearable blankets... idk if they make them too much bigger but I sewed a few myself and they weren't too hard...

You must do a mean swaddle! DS kept wiggling out of his at 4 months, even the Swaddlers.
You could try co-sleeping until he falls asleep and then moving him to his crib? Or just co-sleeping until he gets used to sleeping without the swaddle. If you really don't want to co-sleep, when we didn't co-sleep, we would always put DS in his crib and leave our hands on his and kind of hold him until he fell asleep, and then slowly remove them.

Try a sleep sack. It still goes on them but it's like a blanket that zips on. Maybe that will help move him out of it.

He will eventually. There's nothing wrong with letting it continue. My oldest was swaddled until he was almost 18 months old. Then he just got too big. Even at almost 6 years old he wants to be tucked in tight. It's a comfort thing, no need to break it IMO.

We've tried co-sleeping, he wont sleep in my bed, he never has liked it. We've tried sleep sacks/sleeping bags. If he can move his arms or legs he'll move around the cot and keep himself awake.

Just keep swaddling then. He probably liked the secure feeling.

My son is 13 months and I swaddle him with just a white sheet folded in half. Good luck and leave him be if he sleeps like that.

My son was 11months when he no loner wanted it. He started walking at 10months so it got abit difficult trying to wrap him and hed come out of it straight away then cry but it was a relief when he no longer wanted it
