My birth story
posted 1st Jan
I had a doctors appointment on Tuesday the 18th. When my midwife came in to see me I was in the middle of a very painful contraction so she decided to check me. I was only 1 centimetre dilated. She told me to be at the hospital at 8am the next morning and have cervadil inserted to soften my cervix to hopefully move things along.
My fiance and I arrived at the hospital and they monitered me for about 30 mins and said that they couldn't do the cervadil cause I was already contracting too much on my own (every 5 mins). The nurse said she would check me and stretch my cervix to help move things along more. I was 2 centimeters then. She called my midwife and she decided since I live 45 mins from the hospital that I could come in at 5am the next morning for pitocin. I agreed.
Got back to the hospital at 4:45am and was in my room by 5:30am. Pitocin was started at 7am. Dilated to 4 by 12pm and got my epidural. Then things slowed down. At shift change at 7pm another midwife came in my room in a huge hurry and said "I'm going to assist with a c section and ill be right back to check you and if no progress has been made we will talk about other delivery options". At this point I just broke down. I kept thinking that it had not been that long since I been in "active" labor. I have progressed pretty well today. Baby looks amazing on thr monitor. My blood pressure is fine. Why would I need a c section??? Next thing I know my nurse comes busting in the room and looks at my blood pressure and says "this can't be right" my blood pressure was through the roof! She looked at me and seen that I was crying and upset and I told her what was wrong. She assured me that ad long as me and baby were doing good I could refuse a c section. Finally, my blood pressure came back down. About 30 mins later I got a new nurse cause mine had to go home. This nurse was awesome. She changed my position 2 times in 2 hours and i was 10 centimeters!!! My epidural started to wear off at 9 centimeters. Finally, after 2 hours of pushing with my epidural not working at all and vomiting everywhere while pushing, my 8lb 10oz baby girl arrived at 10:45pm on 12/20/2012. I was 39+4 weeks.
I tore pretty bad. She said she had to sew 3 layers of skin back together and used a whole role of thread but it was so worth it.
