Using a breast pump.

posted 1st Jan
My little girl is 5 1/2 months and has been exclusively breastfed since birth.

I used the electric breast pump (tommee tippee) I purchased when I had engorgment and I wad getting around 8oz from both breasts per pump.

It's coming to the point where I haven't left my daughter yet and I'm wanting some "me time" lol. I've been trying to use the pump and only getting less or around than 1oz!

I get more when I express the milk myself but I have to do it quite hard...

Does anyone have any advice for successful pumping? I've tried relaxing and looking at a picture of my lg but nothing stimulates the let down.

Are you pumping after she nurses and getting 1 oz out?

If so, thats normal. Make sure you nurse her and then pump. At first you wont get much out, but thats because she ate..But it will tell your body to produce more milk and soon that amount will increase.

If that doesnt work, try a larger (or maybe) smaller breast shield to fit you better.

Maybe you need a different size flange? Try drinking a lot more. I pump for my son and sometimes I get a lot and then sometimes I get nothing. I have yet to figure out what causes the fluctuation.
