Terribe butt rash

posted 1st Jan
DS woke up from a nap screaming his lil head off. I changed his diaper and he had gone poop for the 5-6 time today. His lil rash is angry. He was shaking and screaming when I cleaned it. Just a soft wet cloth. So I gave him a does of Tylenol and let it air dry, then smeared some cortisone cream on it. I'm having him go diaper less for a bit and will put some cream, followed by baby powder when I do put a diaper back on. Is there anything else I can do to provide some relief?

My son got a BAD diaper rash when he was an infant due to antibiotics.. He had blisters it was so bad.. It was his first rash too and I remember just crying.. I felt so bad. I talked to his doc and she said it sounds crazy but she wanted me to give him about 6-10 baths that day.. I didn't do that much but I did about 3-4 and used Triple Paste (I swear its the best) its expensive but soooo worth it. Key is to keep the butt dry and clean as possible. I would even lay him on a towel and play with nothing on for a lil bit. And when I did change his butt I would patt it dry before adding the cream. Also make sure u dont use scented wipes. Hope I helped

Get some generic zinc PASTE. It's paste so it's thicker and won't wipe off every time he poops/pees or when you put a diaper on. It's usually in the medication aisle of Walmart and it's called "diaper rash paste" or something. I bought it and it cleared up my sons diaper rash after 3 days of continuously putting it on/airing him out and he hasn't had a rash since.

Also, make sure his wipes are alcohol free. If you can, just use a wash cloth with warm water when you wipe him and then pat the area dry.

I'm just using a wash cloth or rag. I just used destin cream the purple tube, super thick. And I ran out of the good butt paste yesterday.

With my nephew and my son, I always found that the thicker the paste...the better it worked. It protects the skin, so that pee and poop can't irritate it even more. I'd give him some more air out time and see how it looks tomorrow. Desitin and A&D for Babies never worked for me. :/

I did a good thick coat and and then a good amount of powder. I usually hate to use the powder though. Anyway he went pee a bit ago and was okay getting changed. We just let his butt air dry and didn't wipe since it was just pee and I'm going to soak him in a baking soda bath a little later.

Instead of powder i would use corn startch. The powder would always make my son and daughters worse but i would put the diaper rash cream and then on top put corn startch.
