Getting your tubes tied after second child?
posted 1st Jan
I will be 20 in March, and I'm 4 weeks away from having my second child. Me and my husband already have an 18 month old boy, and we're expecting a little girl.
I honestly don't want anymore children,
Since I was little, I always told myself I wanted to get married, have a little boy, and then have a little girl..and what do ya know..God is making my plan come true.
Me and my husband have been together almost 3 years, but only been married for almost two.
I guess my question is, would it be stupid to get my tubes tied so young ?
I'm not exactly sure if you have to be a certain age either.

That depends on where you live. Down here, they won't even consider it until you're 23.

Personally I think being 20 you should wait.
Right now you do not want more but you have a long time to change your mind.

Usually you have to be a certain age and have a certain amount of children before insurance will cover it. I would probably wait a little while and see if you still feel that way in a year or so. I was set on just having 2 since we would have one of each. After having my son though I've changed my mind and we plan to have one more in the future. I'm 21 right now.

i dont know where you live because your thing doesnt say but if you dont have at least 3 kids and/or are at least 25 most doctors will not let you get fixed. your best bet is a long term birth control. maybe the copper IUD

finding a doctor that will do it that young will be the tricky thing

Its certainly a permanent desicison and a serious operation for you. I personally being only 25 soon to be 26 and expecting my third child with 7 years of marriage under my belt plan talked it over and my husband suggested he be the one to get "fixed" since for men it's an outpaitent procedure leaves them in "minor" discomfort for 24 hrs and then it's done and over with no complications and is 100% reversible should god forbid we divorce or pass away and he/ I meet someone else some where done the road as no one knows what the future has in store for us.

Personally I would never tie my tubes unless it was best for me medically (due to pregnancy complications/health issues).
You never know what the future may bring and how you will feel then.

I'm located in NC, but thanks guys ! I guess I just have mixed feelings. Not all birth control is effective, and condoms break and the only way to REALLY avoid another child is to not have sex, and I can't do that. haha. I guess for now, the best thing to do is just to get the IUD, and pray that nothing sneaks by !

Yes it would be stupid to get them tied and 20.... You're too young for that. you could change you mind and seriously regret it. Just protect yourself untill you're older and see if you feel the same.

That is what I was really worried about, but I would hate to get the procedure done and end up wanting more children. I think getting a good BC and just waiting would be best like you said.

I would not. . Too young and too permanent. Heaven forbid something happen to your husband or kids.. in 5_10 years. U remarry with someone who has none or wants more.. but u no longer have that option.
Im 39 with 4kids..one of which is 11 days now and I still wouldn't do it..

also you could do natural family planning which would help you avoid your ovulation days. i mean its not 100% but with the IUD you might be able to avoid pregnancy for a good long while.

I am almost 23 and having my 3rd child in 6 weeks. I am getting my tubes tied during my csection but the only reason the doctor is allowing it, is because i have other medical conditions. I would go for the IUD if I were you
