How will I know???

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and i'm scared that i will go into labor at home. How will I know when I loose my mucus plug??? like what exactly is it...also, I've been having contractions here and there and they aren't dull aching contractions either...they are like doubling over pains...I talked to the doctor about it and she said don't worry about it till they are 3-5 minutes long...well sometimes they are 5 minutes apart and sometimes they are 15 minutes apart, how will i know???? By the way this is my first child so i'm totally clueless here.

When they are timed 3-5 minutes apart consistently is when you should go in.

Your mucus plug can re-grow, so I wouldn't pay too much attention to that. Mine looked like a huge greenish brown booger in my panties. I lost it at 39 weeks, and then some more at 36 weeks.

They are called braxton hicks not real contractions your mucas plug is slimy and can vary in colors. You will know when its time for baby

You'll KNOW when it's labor. Believe me!

You'll know you're in labor when you've been having contractions that are 5 minutes apart- lasting 50-60 seconds for over an hour. Don't be scared to start labor at home. I did and so do most women.

You'll no when it's time. And about the mucas plug I'm not sure i ever lost mine? not noticably anyway. Never had any weird discharge or anything.x

You'll know when its labor. Your contractions will be consistent(not going 5 minutes then 15) Also, don't pay attention to your plug. It doesn't tell you anything about labor.

also, OP, when you lose your mucus plug, it looks like a big chunk of thick boogers. sometimes it's white or yellowish, sometimes it has a little blood on it. but losing it doesn't mean you're in labor. you'll know when it happens. just wait for those contractions to be 3-5 minutes apart and lasting about a minute or more each for one hour.

Did you make it to the hospital? Did you figure it out before someone told you?

Then you figured it out in plenty of time. You knew. If you thought they were BH then they were still early contractions.

Most women labor at home for a couple of hours even when they know its labor early. I stayed home from 2am-6am before I went in. In fact, they tell you NOT to go in until the contractions continue for 2 or more hours.

I gave birth an hour after arriving to the hospital. 30 minutes of that was filling out paperwork and undressing to get into my gown. It hit me fast.

I never lost my mucus plug so can't help you there.
My contractions started off like BH, I was having them every night for the last 3 weeks but they would taper off after 2-3 hours. They did help me efface and dilate though. I knew it was the real thing because the day LO was born they intensified instead of tapering off and I felt them more in my tailbone if that makes sense. Like it started with a twinge in my pelvis, rolled over my hips to the back of my hips and concentrated in my tailbone. BH would just make my belly hard. But then again, I did have horrible back labour!

They had me go in after losing my plug. I was only having back pain. I had my son 4 hours after losing the plug. Never did have bad or regular contractions.

Forgot to add that I was already 3cm dilated.
