My son was on par with yours [to a T]. He didn't show any interest in crawling or sitting and didn't do much of either until about nine months (well, come to think of it he was sitting earlier than that but he definitely wasn't crawling a lot until we moved back in September so he was about 11 months before he really took off).
Fast forward to 15.5 months and he is walking up to six or seven steps at a time, he crawls faster than I can, he pulls himself up and can even make his way up onto the couch as of last night, etc. I think what really brought everything out in him was having a lot of play dates last month. He got to spend a lot of time with twin boys his age who were already walking and I think that got him interested in becoming more mobile. Before that he just didn't seem to care. His mind was totally there--he was interested in how toys worked, he loved having books read to him, he problem-solved, etc.--but his body wasn't caught up and he didn't seem to care.
Long story short, don't worry! Your son sounds just fine! They all progress at their own pace. I wouldn't worry unless he's not mobile by 18 months or something.

Haha well Katy army crawled until she was 10 months she just started doing all fours. I blame the wood floors. She is cruising and just starting to stand unassisted. They will get it in their own time.

I always feel bad when he crawls off naked mid diaper change because I'm worried he will rugburn his winkie!

He has no one to play with :-( it's sad.

I may try with the cell phone on the couch. We only have a rocker, couch and glass coffee table he can pull up on too. That may be why. Lack of options.

Did she just do it on her own one day? He's been working up to his knees, but falls back down.

Yes. They just learn to do it on their own.

My mother keeps insisting we have to "teach" him. I.e. forcing him to get on his knees I always tell her to leave him be.

Pretty much. She always got on all fours to climb over something but never crawled. Then one day she was all about crawling on all fours. It was seriously night and day.

When we first moved into our apt we didn't have a couch for a while. She had NO options to pull up. When we finally got a couch and put stuff up there she would pull u and I would push the items along to make her walk along the couch. Now she cruises on everything and everyone! The only reason she isn't fully walking by herself is for physical problems she has.
She started this all around 1 year adjusted.

My daughter must be slow too then because she barely started crawling at 10.5 months & she started pulling up around the same time lol.

You can help teach him. By helping him get up and by showing but he doesn't need it in order to do it.
