Amniocentesis anyone?

posted 4th Jun
I am supposed to be getting an amniocentesis next Monday or Thursday to see if my baby girl's lungs are mature enough to deliver because they are worried that she might be having platelet problems because I have NAIT. So is there anyone that has had one..and if so, what is it like? I am scared to deathn

I had to go to OSU and they wanted me to have an amnio because one of my labs were elevated and they were not sure why. But I refused, just because everything so far has shown a healthy baby. But I talked to the medical assistant at my OB office and she said she's seen them done 100's of times and it's no big deal. She said it doesn't take that long. I'm sorry I don't have any more info than that. Hope all goes well! I'll keep you in my prayers!!

I had one at about 37 weeks, at first I was pissed that I was basically being forced to have one, but after I got over it , I was ok... it hurts a little but mostly its just a really strong not too painful cramp but after that it wasn't that bad =)

I have had 1 with this pregnancy and the last one. They give you something to numb the area, then use a ultrasound to guide the needle. It hurts and you will have some contractions afterwards, but honestly it felt just a little worse then having blood drawn. It really wasn't too bad. I did make sure not to look at the needle and focus on something els but it is fairly fast and not too bad!

I'm most likely going to choose not to have it numbed just because that's more pain lol. I don't do well with needles and I was reading about it and one of the things I read said that you can choose whether to be numbed or not, so I don't know.

Yeah they aren't going to numb it, I went in today because I have to get IV meds twice a week and so on and they said it would hurt more to numb it and so on. But I found out that they are delivering next Thursday! I'm excited even though my due date isn't until July 7th but I just want my baby girl to be healthy and everything be okay.
